Friendship

Let it never be said that internet friendships are not as real, not as meaningful, as IRL friendships.  One can lead to the other, and when tragedy strikes or blessings rain down, cyber friends are often just as despairing or ecstatic as the friends down the street.

What’s in a name?

Names are stories, and in those stories are a person’s identity and culture.  -Icess Fernandez Rojas

I love that!  It’s so true, too, at least for my stories, anyway.  Think of it: a whole story, a saga, if you will, all summed up in a single word.  Now that’s mind-boggling.

Castle of Dreams

Today I had the pleasure of guest posting over on my good friend Andrea Baker’s blog.  She’s been running a series called Castle of Dreams and I’m delighted to participate in it.  My contribution concerns the palace in Lokana, where my book The Lokana Chronicles and my current WIP are set.  It was a whole lot of fun to write.

I hope you’ll head on over and check it out.  While you’re there, have a look at some of the other entries in the series.  Not all are fictitious entries; there are also posts about very real castles, including Kenilworth Castle, which figures prominently in Andrea’s book, Worlds Apart – Leah, recently published by Taylor Street Publishing.

And now, I’m off to bed.  It’s been a long and busy day, full of work and good food and good friends and great family and fun and I am exhausted!  Happy Friday! 🙂

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

I know I’m a little bit late, but I hope you all had a very merry Christmas!  I don’t know where the time’s gone, but I really hadn’t intended to go so long without posting.  Then I started cleaning and my computer took a three-day vacation while I spent time with family and friends (and kleenex and cough syrup).  I still seem to be under the weather – I don’t know why I can’t shake this bug – but at least I found a little of my Christmas spirit before the big day rolled around.  After three days spent celebrating with family, I spent all afternoon yesterday sleeping in a feeble attempt to recover.  I desperately needed the rest, but I would have liked to get a few more things done around the house (like the mountain of dishes sitting in my kitchen).

Hopefully the end of the holiday season will mean a return to normal blogging for me, but possibly that will not happen till next week.  I’ll be hitting the road Friday with the fabulous Miss Tara for a mutual friend’s wedding festivities in the Great White North, also known as the Land of 1,000 Lakes.  Then it’s another family Christmas celebration on Sunday.  After all of that, I think I’m gonna need another three-day weekend just to recover!  Sadly, I’ll still have to work on Monday. *sigh*  Something tells me I won’t be staying up to watch the ball drop this year.

So in case I don’t see you before then, I hope you all have a terrific rest of the week, a wonderful weekend, and a fabulous start to the new year!  I’ll see you all in 2013, if not before!

The mummy, she lives!

I started this nice little post about this article I read this morning after following a link someone posted on Facebook and it was really very touching, so it made me want to write my very own little post on the same subject but then I got busy at work and didn’t have a chance to get back to it and now I have the time to work on it, but since I have neither the inclination nor the capacity to do so (although I suppose it could be argued that the coherence of this incredibly long run-on sentence means that I very well could write the dang post – I’m just too lazy to make my brain cells actually work), you’ll just have to wait till tomorrow to read it when hopefully the kids will won’t have a snow day and I can get some rest and kick the crap out of this stupid bug that has me in a choke-hold.

‘Tis the season to be jolly and joyous!

I really need to keep reminding myself of that.  Maybe one of these days, it’ll sink in.

It took me all afternoon, but I got my Christmas cards addressed and sent off to all our friends and family.  Well, I put them in our mailbox and put the flag up, anyway.  I watched The Muppet Christmas Carol with the boys tonight before they went to bed.  I’ve been listening to Christmas music all week, and we decorated our office yesterday afternoon.

And yet?  Yeah, my Christmas spirit is still MIA.  If anyone finds it, will you please send it home?  I kinda need it.  Thank you.

Holy shamoly!

I don’t know what I wrote, but evidently someone – or several someones – found something I said of interest because my blog traffic is through the roof today.  Normally I can expect to see twenty, maybe thirty people stop by on any given day.  On a really good day, the number of visitors jumps up to around fifty.  It’s a small following, I know, but I truly appreciate those who stop by regularly.  I think it’s better to have a handful of loyal fans than a thousand people who maybe stop in only once.

But today?  Today I’ve had 303 hits.  I don’t know what I wrote that was so dadgum interesting, but whatever it was, I wish someone would let me know so I could do it again!  Or at the very least, I could try to do it again.

And now, back to my writing cave!

Vote for Vegin!

Cast your votes for Vegin Martoka today!  He’s been nominated for President of the United States of America and I think he would be a great leader for our country in this difficult time.  After all, he led Lokana through one of the most turbulent times in its history, dealing with the devastating droughts and the assassination of his parents, as well as the attempted coup by the Zealots, led by his own brother-in-law, Balil.

Vegin believes all men – and women – were created equal and will make sure that all are treated equally before the law.  He despises corruption and has ousted corrupt officials from every level of government.  A family man, Vegin strives to lead by example.  Honor, decency, and integrity are very important to him.  He is a team player, willing to compromise when needed, and believes that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

So vote for Vegin!  Click here to cast your vote.  He will lead Lokana – erm, America, sorry – back to glory! 😀

Ze weekend, she has begun!

Well, it’s Friday, and you know what that means – there should be a photo post today! But thanks to my lovely guest, and the fact that I’ve had a wild and crazy day and I have a wedding to go to tomorrow, I’m going to forego today’s usual Photo Friday post. I’ll still get it posted, but it may not be till Sunday or Monday. So until then, have a great weekend, stay safe, and keep cool!
