I’m sunshiney!

This morning I awoke to the news that the lovely Kina Diaz DeLeon has nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award.  Needless to say, I was beyond flattered (as I am every time someone nominates me for something like this).  As with all things, there are some rules involved, and here they are:

Rules

  • Link the award to the person who gave it to me – check.
  • Answer the questions about myself – see below.
  • Nominate ten bloggers for the award – yep.
  • Link my nominees to the post and comment on their blog, letting them know about the award – done and done.

And the nominees are, in no particular order:

  1. A.F.E. Smith
  2. Emily McKeon
  3. Kate Jack
  4. Tricia Drammeh
  5. Tara Acton
  6. Jenni Sweet
  7. Sophie Tallis
  8. Jon Bauman
  9. Daphne Shadows
  10. T.L. Tyson

And now for the questions, or rather, the answers:

1. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
I could no sooner pick a favorite Christmas movie than I could pick a favorite star in the heavens, but lucky for you all, the list is short.  My favorites include The Muppet Christmas Carol, White Christmas, Home Alone, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.  There are probably a couple of others, like all the classic cartoon Christmas specials (you know, Garfield and Charlie Brown and Rudolph, oh my! :)), but these are the biggies.

2. What is your favorite flower?
I love love LOVE daffodils.  They’re so bright and cheerful and, well, sunny. 🙂  They’re like a little ray of sunshine on a cold, gray morning, a reminder that the dreariness of winter is nearing its end and that spring will lead soon to summer sun and fun.

3. What is your favorite non-alcoholic beverage?
That’s easy – Dr. Pepper!  And not the diet crap I’ve been swilling lately, either.  I may have adjusted, but that doesn’t mean I like it.  Give me leaded or give me…um…well, can’t I just have leaded, please? 🙂

4. What is your passion?
Again with the easy questions – my passion is writing.  I love to write.  But then, if you’ve spent any amount of time here, any time at all, you know that already, so I suppose I don’t need to blather on about that here, do I?

5. What is your favorite time of year?
Much as I love spring, I’m gonna have to say fall is my favorite time of year. Though I always dreaded the start of the school year, I always secretly enjoyed the crispness in the air each September.  I love the return of sweatshirt weather and the chill in the evening at football games (although I could do without the little black bugs that our band uniforms always seemed to attract – stupid bugs).  I love watching the leaves turn colors and the sound they make as they crunch beneath your feet.  When I was younger, I loved to walk in the gutters on my way home from school instead of on the sidewalk because there were trees all the way up and down my street and I would scuff my feet through the piles of leaves in the gutter till I was knee-deep in leaves.  I think my mother would liked to have killed me because it wore my shoes out faster and made my pants much dirtier, but there was nothing like it in the world for a joyful experience…unless, of course, the leaves were wet.  Then it was much less fun.  While I hate raking leaves, I do love jumping in leaf piles.  I could go on for quite some time here, obviously, but it’s just such a cozy and beautiful time of year.

6. What is your favorite time of day?
Well, it ain’t morning, I can tell ya that much. 😉  A morning person I am not.  On the other hand, I’m not really a night owl, either.  I guess I’m kind of a middle-of-the-day person.  That seems to be when I hit my stride.  By the time I get home, I’m tired.  I’m always tired in the morning, even if I’ve had a good night’s sleep.  I love to watch the sun set and, on the rare occasion when I’m up early enough, I love to watch it rise.  I guess probably the best part of the day for me, though, is after the kids are all in bed because then things finally start to wind down around the house.  With four kids, things are pretty crazy most of the time, so any time it’s calm is a good time for me.

7. What is your favorite physical activity?
I like to go for walks, but since I’m not much of a morning person and I don’t have anyone to walk with after dark, I find it difficult to do much walking for fun and health.  I love to swim, though.  Swimming presents its own challenges, but I love it.  You get a great workout without realizing exactly how hard you’re working until you’ve been at it for a while already, it’s fun, and…uh…it’s fun?  I think that’s all I’ve got, really.

8. What is your favorite vacation?
When I was growing up, my family didn’t take vacations.  The first time I went on vacation, I was 16 and my boyfriend invited me to go to Disneyworld with him and his parents because they had an extra ticket.  We’ve started taking family camping trips this summer with our kids and it’s proven to be a great chance to spend a few days doing things as a family that might not otherwise get done, like going trout fishing or going tubing.  We’ll go once more before the summer’s over and make some more memories along the way.

Thank you, Kay. There are several authors on your list I would like to nominate, but I think I’ll spread the sunshiny joy and nominate a brand new batch of authors. Congrats to you Kay, and to all your nominees.

Just answer the questions on your own blog and nominate some other bloggers to pay it forward – basically, you do what the rules tell you to do. Or failing that, do what I did the first time I was nominated for a blog award – Google it. 😛

Thank you! Except I’m not sure I have any business glaring with sunshine. It might send me back to bed with another migraine. Stupid migraines, anyway. Why do they always ruin my days off?

Well, that was a bit unexpected.

      Um, thank you again! 😀

You do have a lovely Blog as my Sister believes — and exactly the reason why she nominated you for the “One Lovely Blog Award.” Yea another nomination for you. You are probably already all about yourself right now ( : — but you will become in overdrive as my Sister has become because of her nomination.

You are not only sunshiny — I foresee you becoming this melting everything in your site blogger who will be a glaring sun on a hot humid day — shining bright — because you are lovely with a lovely Blog.

The only reason Rooster Lady Sister’s Blog was nominated was out of pity — but I don’t want to say anything to her to hurt her feelings.

Yea, yuse going to be all about yourself. ( :

I doubt I’ll be all about myself, but thank you for the nomination! I think I’ll stay away from anything that has to do with heat and humidity (I get enough of that during the summer) and just be me. 😉
