How was everyone’s weekend? I spent mine mostly offline, fighting a migraine and watching TV. Lots and lots of TV. But it was good, because some of it qualified as research for The Lokana Chronicles. After last week’s writing class and my two-day Reign marathon and a bunch of Wikipedia-browsing, I’ve got a bunch of ideas for revisions (which I’d just resumed and will now have to go back over, but at least it’s only a chapter or two). I decided the book needs to be split in half, so I’ve got a lot of work to do because, once I’m done revising, I’m going to have to figure out how to wrap up the first half so that it feels like a complete book and then do the same for the second half.
Oy. Vey.
We had some snow over the weekend that made for lovely inspiration, but I felt too miserable most of the weekend to do much about it. I finally got a chance to sit down this noon and work on a new short story, but then the phone rang, and there went half my lunch hour. Hopefully I can get some more writing done tonight – that would be awesome! I’m still feeling a bit blah, though, so I guess we’ll see what happens.
In other news, NaNoFiMo has been a complete and utter failure. I wasn’t expecting much to come of it, but I do feel bad for not getting more writing done. At least I got some research done, though.
And reading! I’ve been making my way through a mystery (review to follow once I’ve finished) and I have a fantasy novel to read and review after that, so I’ll be busy with those things for a while. I’m nearly halfway through the mystery and I hope to finish it this week; it’s already taken me longer than I thought it would to read it. I suspect, though, that I won’t get much time for reading this weekend – we’ve got a family Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration on Thursday and another family Christmas celebration on Sunday. Obviously, lots of cooking will be happening. And somewhere in there, I have to bake 27 dozen cookies for church and 4-H.
Yep, you read that right – 27 dozen. That works out to 324 cookies.
Holy. Flour.

I’m not sure yet. We have everything we need for chocolate chip, and possible no bakes, but I haven’t decided for sure what I’m doing yet. I spent part of Friday copying cookie recipes from a friend’s cookbooks and they made me sooo hungry…I want to try them all now, but I have neither the time nor the money to buy all those ingredients and make so many cookies. Snickerdoodles, maybe. I love a good snickerdoodle! 🙂

Desserts of all varieties are still okay in my book, and soups and casseroles, too, but I know what you mean – I am definitely in a cookie mood. And Thursday I get to have my grandmother-in-law’s famous sugar cookies! 🙂 These things go like hotcakes, they’re so good. I can’t wait. 🙂

Most people here will be, too, starting Friday (Black Friday sales, dontcha know). Of course, some places are opening Thursday, which from what I’ve seen, has been a fairly unpopular idea. Thanksgiving and Christmas seem to be the only two sacred holidays left here (by which I mean the ones that retail outlets actually don’t make their employees work).
As for me? I’ll be staying home on Black Friday – I have no intention of dealing with a crowd of crazed deal-seeking maniacs. People have been trampled to death at those sales. How are you gearing up for Christmas?

Starting to buy presents for family not helped by the lack of lists – we swap present wish lists at Christmas. We generally find it much easier that way. This year our families have been a bit slow in giving us their lists. Getting there slowly though. But really looking forward to Christmas I always enjoy seeing family.

That sounds familiar. I had to sit my kids down with sheets of paper and pens to get their Christmas lists, both for myself and for relatives. I don’t have a huge family, though, so there’s not much to buy in the way of gifts for extended family. My husband is one of two, and in their family, they don’t give gifts for everybody – they do immediate family and that’s it. For example, his sister bought gifts for her parents, my husband and me, and Miss Tadpole, who is her goddaughter, but she didn’t buy anything for our three sons. Seymour’s extended family is huge, though, so that’s why they don’t give gifts to everyone, but since my extended family is small enough that we do buy for everyone, I find the practice odd.
Family time is definitely the best part of Christmas. 🙂

Yeah, they do. I’ve been fighting this one since the end of last week – it comes and goes and honks me off. I think it’s stress-related, what with all the moving issues and the holidays and all. But at least I’ve been feeling a bit better today! 😀

I think the holidays are going to kill me this year. I don’t think I’ve ever made so many cookies before. But nothing says, “Merry Christmas!” like a kitchen covered in flour and sugar sprinkles. 😀
As for NaNo, I didn’t really try all that hard this year. I just have to keep reminding myself that I have plenty of time to write, and then somehow I have to force myself to believe it. 😉
