Art

I rarely go anywhere without a camera these days, whether it’s my phone or my lovely Nikon D3200.  I’ve had a passion for photography ever since I was thirteen, when my grandparents gave me my very first camera for Christmas.  My grandpa always had his camera with him; so did my mom, and my aunt, and their cousin and her mother…Well, you get the idea.  Shutterbug-ism runs in my family.  I may not be able to draw to save my soul, but I’m not too shabby with a camera, if I do say so myself.

I love flower photography.  Every time my husband gives me flowers, I spend a good half hour (at least) taking shots of them from various angles, trying desperately to capture what I see and how I see it.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

I’m particularly happy with this shot, though, and the more I look at it, the more little details I notice.  I love the coloring, I love the detail, I love the story that springs to mind as I look at the image.  See, in my mind, those aren’t flowery bits, but a group of old-fashioned ladies standing around, giggling and gossiping as they wait for someone to ask for a dance.

What prompted this sudden arty adventure?  Why, the Daily Post’s Photo Challenge (which you can find here, by the way).  They post some great challenges and, while I’m always meaning to participate, I never seem to get around to it. 🙂

Do you have a favorite photo?  What is it of?

Wow. Okay, I should no longer feel stupid for carrying a camera with me and taking pictures randomly in public.

And I’m glad you take yours with you everywhere. Your photography is gorgeous. 🙂

Good point. I never thought about it like that. Maybe if I take a whole bunch of pictures, I’ll get better at capturing the right angle and light source and all that….. Thanks!

You’re welcome! Seymour always teases me because, any time he buys me flowers, I spend half an hour (at least) taking pictures of the arrangement from various angles. But it’s fun, and trying to get that one amazing shot is a challenge that I enjoy (as opposed to the challenge of trying to remember how to set a long time exposure on my camera, which I do not enjoy).

The best part about digital is that you don’t have to worry about running out of film! I wasted so much film in high school on not-great pictures, but I sure had a lot of fun taking them. And now that my biggest obstacle to getting a great shot – number of exposures – is out of the way, I take way more pictures than I ever did before. 🙂

Wow. I would normally get frustrated if I took that long to find the right angle, thinking I was doing it WAY wrong because of how long it was taking me.
Now that I know an actual photographer takes 30 mins for fun, I don’t feel so stupid. 0.o

Awww! I do get frustrated sometimes, but then writing is also frustrating sometimes (like when you know the perfect word for something, it’s on the tip of your tongue, but you can’t quite remember it). You just have to shoot through the frustration, just like writing through a block. 🙂

Oh, yes. I start spewing out every word near it that I can think of until I find it.
I never thought of it that way. It makes more sense. It’s a process, it takes time.
