Apparently, the front step has become the place to go for kitty pictures. Every morning, the boys dart outside and capture the kitties, usually Opal and sometimes Socks, too. Then it’s off to the front step, with shouts of, “Mommy, you should take my picture! Mommy, take a picture!”
Of course, when we get home in the evenings, it’s the same story – they dash out of the car, grab a kitty, and run off to pose for a picture. Opal seems to have resigned herself to the boys manhandling her, but Socks and Shadow are usually less than thrilled with these forced modeling sessions.
Still, they make some darn cute pictures. 🙂

Thanks, Tricia! I was actually impressed that they managed to catch Shadow – he’s usually pretty skittish around the boys, and for Thumper to catch him, well, Shadow must have been moving a bit slower than normal. 🙂

Definitely. I love a lot of things about digital photography, but I do miss my film camera sometimes. Or rather, I miss the availability of photo developers. All the places I used to take film to be developed no longer offer that service because they’ve installed photo printers. That’s also nice, because it means I don’t have to drive half an hour to Walmart, but I still have a couple rolls of film I need to develop that now require a half hour drive to Walmart because they’re the closest film developer.

I feel the same, and still have my very nice film camera waiting in its case … but I haven’t used it in years.

Same here. I even have a couple rolls of film to go in it, but then I got my pretty, pretty DSLR a couple years ago and I haven’t touched my old one since (not that I had used my film one in ages prior to that – I use my phone camera more than anything else).

Love this post! It sounds pretty familiar! Except my little girl is a bit younger, and I am still trying to teach her the right way to get hold of the cats without accidentally strangling them. They are ridiculously patient with her.

Thanks! 🙂 Most of the time, Thumper manages to catch them around the middle, but every now and then he gets them by the neck. Our kitties are pretty patient with them, but Shadow is the most skittish of the three, so sometimes I worry when the boys get hold of him. They’re figuring out how to pet gently, which is always fun to see.

It’s a learning curve on both sides isn’t it?! And then there’s us parents, stood in the middle, worrying about each of them…that the cat doesn’t scratch, that the child doesn’t accidentally squeeze too hard! My little one is 15 months. She is so in love with her cats, but is still learning how to handle with care! We’ll keep on practising – as I’m sure you guys will! ;o)

It really is. Our kitties were just born this spring, so they’re kind of growing up with the boys, which I love. My oldest son has cats at his dad’s house that are only a few months older than him, and it doesn’t seem right to me that they’re 11 now because I remember when they were all just tiny little newborns. It’s so fun having them all grow up together and watching each of them (cats and kids) discover the world around them. It’s one of the best parts of parenting, I think.

I totally agree, Kay. There is something so special about growing up with pets. Our little girl has always had a thing about cats, and is just totally in love with ours. It is so sweet to watch; definitely a parenting bonus…except when I’m worrying about how they might damage each other! ;o)

I worry more about the boys hurting the kitties than the kitties hurting the boys – I figure if they get scratched, it’ll teach them not yo do whatever prompted the scratching more effectively than my repeated warnings. If they were your daughter’s age, though, then I’d worry more.
I’ll admit to being a bit envious of my kids in this respect – I never had pets growing up, and I always wanted them. I do wish our kitties could be housecats, but my husband is too allergic.

Nope, I’m I’m all for the ‘learn by your mistakes, and if you’ve been scratched it’s probably your own silly fault’ parenting approach! But yes, she is still quite little to understand that all the time, so we do keep a fairly watchful eye! Shame that you can’t have house cats, they are lovely for cuddles at the end of a long day. But perhaps there will be other pets one day that won’t set off your husband’s allergies. :o)

I really miss the cuddles – there’s nothing like snuggling a happy lap cat to soothe your nerves after a long day, except for waking up to happy kitty snuggles when there had been no kitty present at bedtime. 🙂

So true, Kay! I hadn’t realised how much I’d missed them until we got our two kittens. Purring cats are practically therapeutic for me for some reason. :o)
