Saturday Switch-up

Not only is this a flashback to my younger days, but it’s also a mash-up of two awesome shows.

What are some of your favorite shows?

Day of Darkness

I went Black Friday shopping this year for only the second time ever, and the first time in over a decade. I didn’t get much, and the two things I did buy weren’t on sale. *sigh*

Story of my life.

What about you – do you go Black Friday shopping? Why or why not?

Making new things familiar

I can’t get over how true this is.

One of the things I decided to do when my children were small is try to see things from their perspective. Everything is new to children, everything is full of wonder. I’d forgotten how to see the world’s wonders; I’d forgotten how to see its magic.

I’d become like the grown-ups in The Polar Express: I could no longer hear the sweet music of the jingle bell from Santa’s sleigh.

After I made this decision to see the world through a child’s eyes, I could once again see the magic present everywhere. I could see the wonders in each day. I could hear the sweet music of that bell.

But now…

First Thanksgiving

We celebrated Thanksgiving with our extended family today, and I was super excited to capture this moment shortly after dinner:

See, Bubbles has decided that he doesn’t like board games. Or cards. Seymour and I love both, so getting him to join us in a game is often very difficult. And relations between Bubbles and his brothers are often strained, largely as a result of proximity (I think), so I was so excited to see Bubbles not only playing a board game with Cricket, but also seeming to enjoy it.

Of all my many blessings, I am most thankful for my wonderful family. How about you – what are you thankful for?

Game day fun!

If there’s a better way to spend a Saturday than cheering on your favorite team with your family, then I don’t know it…

…and I’m not sure I want to.

What did your Saturday bring you?

Finally Friday

It’s Friday! Wooooo!

Between the final Panthers football game and Thanksgiving with our extended family, it’s gonna be a crazy weekend, but a fun one. What do you have planned?

Throwback Thursday: ’90s Inspiration Edition

Today’s Throwback Thursday post is going waaaay back. Like, back to the ’90s.

My very first autograph.

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending Final Thursday. It’s a reading series hosted at the Hearst Center for the Arts; there’s an open mic period followed by a featured reader, and it’s a whole lot of fun. I attended a couple of times in college (either because it was mandatory or there was extra credit), and I even managed to read something once (so I wouldn’t have to do a write-up on the event later). For someone who hates public speaking as much as I do, that was a big deal, particularly when it came to the essay I’d decided to read.

Anyway. Even if you’re not reading, Final Thursday is a ton of fun because…
