Lumberjack down!

Lumberjack down!

Apparently I have a lumberjack for a son.  And apparently, he’s rather a clumsy lumberjack, as he fell into a ditch full of snow retrieving the mail Saturday afternoon.

Guess it’s a good thing he wasn’t armed with any tools of the trade. 🙂

What silly things have your kids said lately?

I’m not sure whose expression is funnier here, Thumper’s or Bubbles’:

candycoma

Okay, Bubbles takes the cake.  But Thumper takes the candy. 🙂

He won a huge pot of candy at the first fish fry of Lent last night.  Apparently he correctly guessed how many pieces were in the container.  He was so excited when they gave him the whole thing!  He shared quite nicely, but I hate to think how much of this he ate before we left.

Fish fries are definitely my favorite part of Lent.  The counter full of chocolate goodies?  That was difficult.  Luckily there were plenty of people to talk to and keep me away from all the deliciousness. 🙂

I arrived home last night to find two packages sitting by my garage.  We occasionally get packages, and occasionally our letter carrier actually leaves them by our garage as we’ve requested a whole bunch of times.  But last night, I was surprised to find that one of them was addressed to me.

I hadn’t ordered anything recently, so what in the world could it be?  The return address indicated that it had come from California, but I couldn’t remember if the ZIP code listed was the same as my bestie’s or not, and if it was, I couldn’t figure out what she would be mailing me.

coffee

But then I opened the box, and remembered that I’d joined Blurb’s Coffee & Quill Society back in November, and here they were sending me a free coffee mug!  I do love freebies, especially the useful sort.  Now I have something with which to imbibe my writerly go-juice at home, and I can’t wait to try it out tonight. 🙂

It’s another Monday, and since I’m actually having a decent hair day, I thought I’d share:

2015-02-09 10.20.09

All the cool kids are using number two pencils to hold their hair back.  At least they used to, anyway.

This hair accessory decision has been brought to you by Buffy Summers.  Because I’m reliving my youth through hair accessories. 🙂

Had to go up to Rochester today for a follow-up appointment.  Along the way, we passed a store that was going out of business and had everything marked way, way down.  We stopped to check things out on the way home, and among other things, I found this:

speaker

It’s a Bluetooth speaker.  Now I can listen to Pandora on my phone with better sound quality!  Yay! 😀

I also got four new Pentel Quicker Clicker mechanical pencils for 60% off.  I am all set for a while now.  At the rate I’ve gone through these pencils, I shouldn’t have to buy another one for a couple of decades at least. 😀

New year, new features!

So tomorrow we start another year.  Can you believe how fast 2014 flew by?  I know I can’t.  I’m sure it just began yesterday, didn’t it?

But with the new year, I’ve decided to do something new here on my shiny, pretty blog.  There’s this calendar that I saw a while back, called “When You Stumble, Make it Part of the Dance” by Suzy Toronto, and it had some of the neatest sayings on it, one for each month.  Some of them inspired me, some of them made me laugh, but all of them made me want to share with all of you.  I’ll share one calendar quote the first of every month, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

If you’d like to get a copy for yourself, check out Ms. Toronto’s website.  She’s got lots of great stuff for sale, and if I ever win the lotto, I’ll be tempted to buy one of everything she’s got up. 🙂

In the meantime, I hope you stay safe this New Year’s Eve, and may 2015 bring you and yours nothing but the best.  Happy New Year!

Sometimes, it’s the simple things in life that are the sweetest.

besties

Like visits from best friends on cloudy days, or – in this case – a night out with great food, great friends, and great fun.  I still maintain that Gaelic Storm concerts need to be an annual thing.  Who knows?  Maybe 2015 will be the year we revisit the Englert and have a rollicking good time!

What simple things do you enjoy?

I’m continuing the Christmas theme today with pictures from the annual Kauffman Christmas.  Seymour’s family gets together every year to celebrate with all the aunts, uncles, and cousins, and it’s always a lot of fun.  There’s enough food to feed a small army, great conversations on every topic under the sun, and even a visit from Santa Claus.  It’s one of the highlights of the year for me because there’s nothing better than spending the holidays with the ones you love. 🙂

How does your family do Christmas?
