It’s vacation time!  Woo!

I’ve got posts scheduled for the next two weeks, but I don’t know that I’ll be able to reply to comments till vacation’s over with.  Our vacations are typically electronics-free, and it’s nice to unplug and spend time together as a family without seeing noses buried in screens.

That said, you can bet I’ll be replying when I get back.  In the meantime, pull up a chair and chat with everyone else who drops by!

Now that the housekeeping’s out of the way, how about a picture?

I’m still having fun with my new photo accessories, as you can see.  This is a detail shot of that pie crust I shared last week.  Yummy!

Do you do family vacations?  What does your family like to do?

I do love being outside.  The wind in the trees, the birds singing gaily, the sun on my face, it’s all just so –

SQUIRREL!

Okay, that was a bad joke.  But that was also my favorite part of the movie Up, and I know I’m not the only person who loved that part.  Believe it or not, it even has something to do with today’s post:

See?  Squirrel! 😀

The squirrels in my old stomping grounds are full of personality.  This particular day, they were also apparently full of hormones, but that’s another story.  As I cautiously photographed this particular one, I could hear him screaming, “Get off my lawn, you crazy person, you!”

Heck, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see him shaking a fist at me. 🙂

I got some new toys in the mail the other day, and I’ve been having a ton of fun familiarizing myself with them:

I want to do some star trails when we go on vacation, and once upon a time, I knew how to do it.  But that was a good ten years and three cameras ago, back when I still used film.  I finally found the part of my camera manual that gave directions on how to do long time exposures, and it said that in order to do exposures of longer than thirty minutes, I’d need a cable release.

Hello, Amazon?   Can you help a girl out?

Photo Friday hiatus

June is a crazy busy month.  Always has been, probably always will be.  In looking at my calendar for the rest of the month, I’ve decided to take a hiatus from Photo Fridays for June.  Between vacation, getting ready for vacation, birthday parties, getting ready for birthday parties, and the impending Corn Carnival, I’m going to have more on my plate than you can shake a stick at.

Summer is a time to relax, take it easy, and go with the flow.  If I’m stressing about my blog?  Going with the flow is the last thing that’ll happen.

So stay tuned next month, when Photo Friday will make a triumphant return.  Okay, maybe it won’t be triumphant, but it will definitely return, so keep your peepers peeled and have a great month! 😀

Selfie queen, I am not.  When it comes to using my phone’s front-facing camera, the results are iffy at best.  But occasionally the boys demand to be in a picture with me.

This was one such incident.  Naturally, in trying to make sure I got Thumper before he had a chance to touch the screen and mess up the shot, I cut off my face.  Miss Tadpole, however, managed a pretty excellent photo bomb, and a minute later, Bubbles joined her.

I love it when they get excited about things. 🙂

What do your kids get excited about?

Photo 365 #301: On the way

On my way to work the other morning, I noticed some daisies growing up by our garage.  I love daisies, so I got the boys buckled in and stopped to snap a few pictures.

I love the way they turned out, and I can’t wait to get back out there and photograph them again. 🙂

Holy cow – how have I been at this project for 300 days already?  Didn’t I just start this thing?

Today is the kids’ last day of school.  It’s the last day of school in the building they’re in for good (as far as I know at the moment), as the school district has decided to close the building. *sigh*  The last day of school is supposed to be a fun day – it’s the beginning of summer, baby! – not a downer.

With that in mind, here’s a beginning I made last night:

2015-06-02 19.57.21

I suppose technically, I made this beginning last weekend, when I actually put together the pie crust and the fruit.  Thing is, I didn’t actually get the pie put together until last night.  When I trimmed the bottom pie crust, I had more left than I thought I’d have, so I tried to make the top crust out of my remains, but I didn’t have quite enough for that.  That was when I decided to try a lattice crust.  I’d never done one before, and the results aren’t exactly pretty (especially now that I’ve noticed I botched up the lattice), but hopefully it tastes better than it looks.

I’ll find out tonight. 🙂

Are your kids still in school yet?  If not, how long have they been on summer break?

Today was an absolutely wonderful day to spend at the park.  After running a few errands, we did just that.

The boys had a blast playing on the swings and the slides and the horsies.  It wasn’t too hot, it wasn’t too cold, the sun was shining – it was just right.

But then we had to come home, and there were two very upset little boys.  Luckily they were easily pacified with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original cartoon version) when we got home, which made me happy because I had supper to fix, pie to bake, and a house to clean before a guest arrived.

Whew!

How do you like to spend beautiful days with your kids?

Once more, the elusive still Thumper is spotted holding a baby…

I just can’t get over how still he sat while holding his baby cousin.  Thumper is never still.

Cricket’s godmother and her family were here for a visit yesterday, and I was very impressed with my guy.  He shared his bunny with his little cousin, he held him, he helped feed him; he even watched him while he slept.  He was quiet and gentle and it was amazing to watch.

He loves his little godbrother.

Naturally, Thumper had to have a turn, too:

Thumper took a bit more convincing, but he managed to sit still and be quieter than normal for much longer than normal.  I was very proud of him, too.

It’s hard to believe they were ever so little and still, especially now that they’re both back to running around the house at mach 10 again this morning.
