Cuz it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life…

We undecorated our office today at work.  It looks so barren without all the Christmas things up!  Despite being unable to find my Christmas spirit this year, I hate taking the decorations down.  It’s always struck me as a sad act.  Lights and garland and fancy colored balls are so cheerful that one can’t help smiling, and Christmas music almost always brings a smile to my face at some point during the season.  Putting everything away feels like mourning.  I suppose that, with Lent and Easter coming up, this feeling is perhaps appropriate, but I still hate taking everything down.

Also, I may or may not be given to occasional bouts of laziness.  I suppose that could also account for my dislike of undecorating.

Speaking of things that are bittersweet, check this out:

Old friends are the best. 🙂

A post shared by Kay Kauffman (@kaysiewrites) on

This was snapped last weekend at my friend Jenni’s wedding reception.  The four of us in the picture all grew up together and it was so much fun hanging out with old friends all night long.  Old friends are the best. I don’t hang out with my old friends as often as I’d like, primarily because so many moved away after high school and we lost touch.  But that’s the way of things, isn’t it?  The only certainties in life are death and taxes.

And change.  I don’t do well with change.

But since change is inevitable, except from vending machines (and seriously, I have the worst luck ever getting change back from the stupid things), I’ve gotta suck it up and adapt.  Thank God for the interwebs, am I right?

Okay, enough nostalgia for today.  It’s Friday, for Pete’s sake!  Time to rock and roll!  Okay, maybe it’s just time to take my cold medicine and hit the sack.  But still.

Here’s to a brighter tomorrow for all of us.  Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to you as well! I’ve been fighting this bug since before Christmas, but I finally caved and went to the doctor this week. My sinuses hate me, I think. 🙂 Also, I catch everything the kids bring home. But like you said, we’re still here and we’re still kicking, and some days, that’s an accomplishment in and of itself. 😉
