Holy cannoli, Batman, I’ve finished!

That’s right, I’ve finished the revisions!  Again!  For good (I hope)!  And now, a stats breakdown, because I’ve been staring at spreadsheets all day and decided to do one of my own because my spreadsheets are better:

  • Final word count (excluding chapter headings, title page, and header info): 101,561
  • Final page count: 356
  • Average number of words per page: 285.28

Once again, I’ve printed a hard copy to look over before I get it sent off.  Seymour has graciously offered to go over it for me, and I hope he’ll find the time to do it before next year because he is an excellent editor.  He just has even less time than me. *sigh*

I could do with a nap in one of these right now!

So tonight, now that all my hard work is done (I hope), I’m going to leave my laptop turned off, pop in a lovely Disney movie, and spend some time with my long-suffering family.  They deserve it, I deserve it, and more importantly, my brain needs a rest!  Of course, I could always amuse myself by trolling the internet for fun things to post on the ’90s Kid Facebook page.  That’s always a fun time!  Incidentally, if the nostalgia bug hasn’t bitten you yet, check it out.  You may wind up with a severe case.  I know I have! 🙂

Okay, time to go.  Must load up with good food, good tunes, good drinks, and good rest!  After all, I’ve got another vacation coming up, and as anyone who’s followed my previous vacation posts already knows, I’ll be in serious need of a vacation to recover from it, so I had better rest while I can.  Happy Tuesday, y’all! ♥

It’s all about revisions, baby

I’m still busy revising like mad. I’ve only got some twenty pages left to revise. Something tells me they’ll be some of the hardest twenty pages to revise, right up there with the former Chapter Seven (I think it’s now Chapter Nine – either way, it was a bear to fix). And now that I’ve checked in, I must put the screaming one to sleep and get myself back to work. To the Writing Cave! 🙂

The little writer who could

It’s been a week of ups and downs here in my neck of the woods.  Thumper is now walking…when he feels like it, which frankly, isn’t that often.  Stubborn little guy.  He and Cricket are working on molars, so I’ve got two cranky little guys running around my house.  Seymour’s grandma passed away yesterday after years of health problems, so we’re dealing with everything attendant with that as well.  We’ll be seeing a lot of the family over the next few days, as the visitation is Friday, the funeral Saturday, and the family reunion/40th anniversary party for Seymour’s parents/Thumper’s birthday party is on Sunday.  Going back to work on Monday will feel like a vacation at this rate.

Revisions continue.  I’ve added over 10,000 words and more than 30 pages in the last 27 days, and I still have about 90 pages left to go before I’m finished revising.

International Zombie Day

Today is Friday the 13th, day of terror and superstition and scary movie marathons.  It’s also International Zombie Day (or so I’ve been told) and in celebration of the ooey and gooey, I’m here to tell you about a new book just released by Taylor Street Publishing.

I’ve Been Deader, a near-perfect blend of comedy and horror by Adam Sifre (also known lovingly as Splinker to his adoring fans), is a story about Fred, a zombie in love with a girl.  The chapters read like flash fiction, and when it comes to the undead, you gotta read about Fred.  Splinker is quite insistent about that.   So without further ado, behold the first chapter, entitled…

Of editors and rejections and hope, oh my!

This morning I was perusing Chuck Wendig’s awesome blog, the way I do every weekday morning.  As usual, it was freaking awesome.  In today’s post, he compared editors to MacGyver and the A-Team:

Then she gathers up the crumbled story-boulders and pages caught on cactus spines and she again mounts her steed and rides to the next ridge.  There she sits, alone.  For hours.  Maybe days.  Pulling pages apart.  Seeing what she has.  Shining a light into dark corners.  Finding sense.  Fixing errors.  Bringing sanity back to madness, chaos back to order, context back to content.  Her red pen dances bloodily upon the page.

And when the time is right, she rides again.

Anyway, I know that little tidbit references neither MacGyver nor the A-Team, but to find those two particular bits, go here.  Read the whole thing – it’s totally worth it, I promise you.  Guy knows his stuff.  Also?  He usually makes me laugh because he’s funny in a way I can’t quite describe.  Maybe that’s because I have a weird sense of humor, but maybe not.

And now for the rejection part. Luckily, it’s not rejection Simon Cowell-style. That means there’s still reason to hope! And since I’m an optimist, you know I will.
