It’s hard work being a little guy.  Eat and sleep, play and eat.

But sometimes, there’s cake.  And everyone loves cake, especially little guys like Thumper.  It’s even better when it’s birthday cake and Grandpa and Grandma are here to share it.

Today is my father-in-law’s birthday, and the kids are beyond excited to spend the day with Grandpa and Grandma.  I hope your Sunday will be as nice as ours!

Photo Friday: The door throwback

I don’t know why, but I just love pictures of kids and doors:

Maybe it’s because my sons love to explore (particularly where and when they shouldn’t).  Maybe it’s because it’s a fantastic reminder that to a child, everything is new and different and somehow magical, which is something that adults often seem to forget.  Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the magic I used to see in the world, and that the magic still exists if I’d just take the time to look for it.

I don’t know about you, but I could use a little magic at the moment.

What reminds you to seek the magic in your own life?

Have a great weekend, everybody, and don’t forget to check out Charnele’s throwback post!

We had a tiny handyman at our house this weekend:

mr. fixit

Here he is trying to fix a picture before hanging it on the living room wall.  He also fixed our steps.  He’s quite the handy little Cricket.

Do your kids ever fix up your house like this?  What do they do?

2015-02-15 08.21.37Cricket is the family comedian.  He says such funny things, but he’s funniest when he’s being completely serious.

We’ve been enjoying the Music and Lyrics soundtrack in the car lately.  The boys always ask me the name of each song as it comes on, and sometimes they ask me another half dozen times throughout the course of the song.  Last night Cricket really wanted to hear the song “Tony the Beat,” but “A Different Sound” was playing, so he asked me which song was next:

Me: “Love Autopsy.”
Cricket: “What song is after that?”
M: “PoP! Goes My Heart.”
C: “And after that?”
M: “Buddha’s Delight.”
C: “And after that?”
M: “Meaningless Kiss.”
C: “And after that?”
M: “Entering Bootytown.”
C: “And after that?”
M: “Way Back Into Love.”

At this point, I fully expected him to ask what came after that (again), and since “Tony the Beat” was the next song, I thought maybe that would put an end to the questions (for a few minutes, anyway).  Instead, this happened:

C: *thinks for a minute*
C: “Entering Bootytown is the way back into love?”
M: *facepalm of epic proportions*

I told Seymour about it when we got home.  He’d had a long day of running errands, and this put a big ol’ smile on his face.  His response?  “From the mouths of babes…”

Kids. 🙂

Photo Friday throwback time!

In honor of Bubbles’ well-received mention of Hoth, here’s a picture of him all dressed up for Halloween:

luke

He’s four in this picture, and it was actually taken at Christmas – his grandma made him the costume as a Christmas gift and he wore it the following Halloween.  He was so excited; he couldn’t wait to go trick-or-treating as Luke-from-the-third-movie-when-he’s-all-in-black-and-has-the-green-light-saber. 🙂

Over the years, Bubbles has become interested in many other awesome things, but he’s a Star Wars fan first and foremost, and I don’t see that ever changing.  Yay! 🙂

Don’t forget to check out Charnele’s throwback post – it’s de-lovely. 🙂

Lumberjack down!

Lumberjack down!

Apparently I have a lumberjack for a son.  And apparently, he’s rather a clumsy lumberjack, as he fell into a ditch full of snow retrieving the mail Saturday afternoon.

Guess it’s a good thing he wasn’t armed with any tools of the trade. 🙂

What silly things have your kids said lately?

This morning we paid a visit to my aunt’s church, where my cousin was playing with a trombone ensemble from Wartburg College.

wartburgtrombones

They played some great tunes, and it was a fun time.  Band was by far my favorite thing about going to Wartburg.  And the afternoon only improved when we returned home, put the boys down for naps, and marathoned season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I love lazy Sundays.  How did you spend yours?

I’m not sure whose expression is funnier here, Thumper’s or Bubbles’:

candycoma

Okay, Bubbles takes the cake.  But Thumper takes the candy. 🙂

He won a huge pot of candy at the first fish fry of Lent last night.  Apparently he correctly guessed how many pieces were in the container.  He was so excited when they gave him the whole thing!  He shared quite nicely, but I hate to think how much of this he ate before we left.

Fish fries are definitely my favorite part of Lent.  The counter full of chocolate goodies?  That was difficult.  Luckily there were plenty of people to talk to and keep me away from all the deliciousness. 🙂

2015-02-15 08.25.30Don’t let that adorable face fool you – this is his mischievous smile.  This smile says, “I’m gonna do somethin’…Somethin’ bad…Muahahaha!”

And now I’m having flashbacks to Gerbil in a Microwave.  That was fun. 🙂

I love my little Thumper bunny, but wow – this kid…He’s definitely something else.  On the bright side, he woke up this morning with a dry diaper, so I’m super excited because I hate potty training and am really looking forward to being done with it.  That is probably all I’ll say on the topic until I can throw out the diapers for good, but I was so excited this morning that I was ready to scream it from the rooftops. 🙂

Happy Friday, everybody!

We had Seymour’s birthday supper last night, even though his birthday was Monday.  It was pretty good, even if I did mess up the chicken a little bit.

My candle placement skills are improving; last year’s design wasn’t nearly so impressive.

And the kids thought I’d run out of candles.  Ha! 😀
