One of the things I love about fall is the profusion of color.  From fiery reds to golden oranges, color abounds.

I found these late blooms among the changing leaves at the courthouse today as I ran errands at work.  I loved these flowers in the spring, when their golden yellow blooms were like little spots of sunshine on a cloudy day, and I couldn’t help thinking of them the same way today.  As beautiful as they are in the spring, when they pop against the deep green of their leaves, they were just as beautiful today against the backdrop of green and gold.

What’s your favorite part of fall?

Yep, it’s another beautiful sunset.  Last night’s sunset was magnificent; I could have watched it all night.

But this morning it was followed by an equally magnificent sunrise, which my hurried picture didn’t do justice:

The sun must be rising a little later, because it was dark when I woke up this morning.  I don’t like waking up before the sun because it’s awfully hard to leave my warm, cozy bed behind for the chilly darkness of early morn.

Photo Friday: Endings!

endcornWho doesn’t love endings?  Well, okay, if it’s the end of a fantastic book, or if it’s the end of a particularly beloved character (still bitter), or if a relationship is ending, then I don’t like them.  As the great Jane Austen once said, “If a book is well-written, I always find it too short.”

But today’s ending is more in tune with the circle of life.  While it’s true that a circle really has no beginning and has no ending, life does (which makes “the circle of life” something of an oxymoron, doesn’t it?), and now that we’re well into fall, you can see endings everywhere.

Over the summer, my aunt took a picture of the kids standing in front of the corn that grows at the edge of our yard.  She wanted me to get another picture of the boys in front of the corn this fall, but I kept putting it off, and the weather recently didn’t help.

I came home from work one day and discovered that…

It’s rainy, gray, and dismal outside today.  Tomorrow is supposed to be much the same, but colder to boot.  This makes for great writing weather, but otherwise it’s all rather dreary.

On top of that, it’s Monday.  I strongly dislike Mondays, though after watching this cartoon, I have no wish to get rid of them. 😀

Anyway, to counteract all this drabness, I give you this:

bluesky

Nothing says cheery like a bright blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds.  I may have to set this image as my desktop background in a month or two when winter’s monotone colors threaten to drive me up the wall.

What’s Monday like for you?

I can’t believe October is a third over already.  Pretty soon there’ll be snow on the ground, and I’m not sure I’m ready for that yet.

In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy the sunshine and colors while I can get them, because they’ll be gone before I know it.

eeriemoonNow that it’s fall, it’s beginning to get a bit colder.  Friday night there was actually a frost warning, so we moved our impatiens inside the office for the weekend because it’s too pretty to let go of just yet.  But with cooler temps both during the day and at night, we’ve decided to cave a bit earlier than normal and start up the furnace.  Also on the list of ways we’re preparing for winter?  Insulation.

Since Seymour doesn’t work Sundays, and since we had both Bubbles and Tadpole with us this weekend, we decided yesterday was the perfect day to insulate our attic.

Of course, we didn’t get started as early as we’d hoped to because…

It was a beautiful day today. It was a beautiful day yesterday, too, and this was the view from my window last night when I got home from work:

I love Iowa. It’s such a beautiful place to live. 🙂

Yesterday started off with a delightful fog before giving way to heavy showers in the afternoon.  Today is wonderfully chilly (wonderful weather for eating chili) and windy.

I guess it’s safe to say that Summer is well and truly gone and Fall is here at last.
