Photo Friday: Endings!

endcornWho doesn’t love endings?  Well, okay, if it’s the end of a fantastic book, or if it’s the end of a particularly beloved character (still bitter), or if a relationship is ending, then I don’t like them.  As the great Jane Austen once said, “If a book is well-written, I always find it too short.”

But today’s ending is more in tune with the circle of life.  While it’s true that a circle really has no beginning and has no ending, life does (which makes “the circle of life” something of an oxymoron, doesn’t it?), and now that we’re well into fall, you can see endings everywhere.

Over the summer, my aunt took a picture of the kids standing in front of the corn that grows at the edge of our yard.  She wanted me to get another picture of the boys in front of the corn this fall, but I kept putting it off, and the weather recently didn’t help.

I came home from work one day and discovered that they were harvesting the beans on the other side of this corn field, and so it’s been in my mind again lately, but it’s been so wet and rainy that I haven’t had a chance to get outside with my camera.  Yesterday was a brilliant sunny day, and I thought I’d take the boys out and get some pictures after they woke up from their naps.

As I was trying to get Thumper to fall asleep, all of a sudden there was a great noise outside.  I looked out the window and – the horror! – there, in the field, was a combine, followed by a tractor pulling a wagon.  Frack!

Cricket was asleep, so I had no choice but to wait and hope they didn’t finish combining the field before naptime was over.  Thumper never did sleep, so it was a long afternoon.  But finally, Cricket awoke and the three of us headed outside with my trusty camera.  We had to hoof it through the field to get right next to the corn, and I only got a couple of shots because they were working their way to us as I was snapping pictures and I didn’t want to be in the field when they came around the corner of our property.

Thumper wanted to bring Shadow with him, but luckily for Shadow, I talked the boys into leaving the kitties in the yard.  I ended up having to carry Thumper through the field because he kept tripping on the corn stalks, so I’m glad he left the cat behind.

Neither of these pictures are my best work, but at least we didn’t get combined along with the corn. 🙂

Don’t forget to stop by Charnele’s blog and check out her post, and have a great weekend!
