One of the things we did over the weekend to sort of celebrate our anniversary involved attending a football game at the University of Northern Iowa. It was my first time tailgating, and I had a lot of fun (despite the swarms of little black bugs).

Nothing says fun like a game of catch with the old man.

And the Panthers? They stomped the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 50-7. Those seven points were scored late in the third quarter against the Panthers’ third string. It was a blowout.

Photo 365 #53: Nighttime

This week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge is all about night photography, which I dearly love but don’t do enough of.  I’ve seen some pretty amazing silhouettes so far, and while I love them, this is one of my favorite nighttime shots:

fireworks

I didn’t think my phone would capture the fireworks very well, but I was pleasantly surprised.  This came out much better than I could have possibly hoped for. 🙂

I didn’t even know I took this picture:

square accident

Apparently I’m an accidental photographer instead of an accidental texter.  I kind of like it, though.  My phone’s screen is hard to see in bright sunshine, and I thought I had it locked, but evidently not.

Have you ever taken an accidental photo?

Last week, the Daily Post ran a photo challenge about endurance.  This is what endurance means to me:

centuryfarm

There are a lot of century farms in Iowa, farms that have been owned by one family for a hundred years or more, including mine.  They have a recognition ceremony at the state fair every year, and it’s a really neat thing to be a part of.

Since apparently my cloudy commute pictures are depressing some folks, here’s one from the other morning, when the sun was shining in one corner of the sky:

I love how the light saturates the field with color, making the crops pop against the clouds darkening the distant sky. 🙂

Run away!

Wait!  No, please don’t run away!  That was supposed to be funny…You know, and make you think of this…

Or even this:

rugenOr, better yet, this:

Running Away Final Cover

It’s release day for Running Away, the second book in Julie Hutchings Shinigami series, and I’m super excited to help her celebrate!  But what’s behind this pretty cover?

Photo Friday: Favorites

Today is a pretty special day, so I have a pretty special picture to share:

wedding

Five years ago, I married my best friend, and this is one of my favorite pictures from that day.  It’s hard to believe it’s been five years – we’ve packed so much into so short a time, but I wouldn’t trade a minute of it.  We’ve moved twice, added two beautiful boys to our family, and embarked on another remodeling adventure.  I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next five years, and the five after that, and the five after that…

Don’t forget to stop by Charnele’s blog and check out some of her favorite things!  What are some of your favorites?

This morning started off with a beautifully colored sky, even if it did look like it was going to rain:

A couple miles further down the road, it did start to rain, and it kept it up most of the morning.  I’m glad the rain has stopped now, but I do wish it wasn’t so boringly gray outside.

Bubbles has to be at his football games an hour early to practice beforehand.  If I was attending by myself, it would be a great time to get some reading done, or some writing, or even that strange new thing the kids these days call socializing.  You know, actually interacting with other actual people.

But I don’t get to do that.  I go everywhere accompanied by kids – sometimes two, sometimes three, sometimes four.  And while I was waiting for Bubbles’ game to start Sunday afternoon, Cricket and Miss Tadpole had fun entertaining each other, which was lots of fun to watch (more fun than the game, even, since I’m clueless when it comes to football).
