I sure am glad this guy came home last night.
He made a rough day infinitely better with a well-timed hug. 🙂

It’s another list today. Why? Well, because I’ve been reading Things We Like I think it’s pretty cool. Also? I’m in the midst of revising not one, but two WIPs, and my brain is a little fried. Also also? Life is crazy right now, and a list of things I like seems like something I can manage.
Short, sweet, and to the point. At least that’s the theory.
So, without further ado, here are some things I like:
How about you? What things do you like?

It was a busy weekend. We built a chicken coop and hung gutters and tried not to collapse in the heat. (I may have collapsed, but not from the heat.)
Still, despite all the busy-ness, I managed to take a few neat pictures of the hay in our newly-remodeled granary/rabbit house/cat house/chicken coop:

I only wish I could have taken more. There was a great view from the first floor, but by the time I grabbed my phone, we’d already strung up the chicken wire for the ceiling. 😦
How was your weekend?

For my final photo in this project, I’ve settled on another one of my many, many flower shots:

I can’t help it – I love shooting flowers. They’re so pretty, and in the right light, they positively sing. I mean, look at those colors! And the clarity of this image – I haven’t done a thing to it, other than transfer the image from my phone to my computer.
I love it when things turn out like this, and I’m glad I can end my photo-a-day project on such a stunning note. 🙂

Despite the heat and humidity, the flowers around our house have been flourishing. Check out these beauties!
I’m not completely sure what kind of flower they are, but we have three different shades of them growing around our house, and they populate the local ditches as well. They’re gorgeous, and every time I see them, it puts a smile on my face.
What puts a smile on your face?

I just love this picture of Shadow:

Mr. Regal was looking rather less regal and rather more ornery when I snapped this. I didn’t even realize he was licking his chops till several hours later.
Don’t mess with Shadow… 🙂

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a monarch butterfly, but I found one in our yard Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, it had fallen victim to the lawnmower (or possibly the heat – Saturday was pretty darn warm).

Seymour was lucky enough to see it alive Saturday morning, and I saw another one later in the afternoon. I remember seeing tons of these guys as a kid, and their caterpillars, too, but there was a lot more milkweed around back then.
It’s a shame there aren’t more of these around for my kids to enjoy the way I did.

The apples have once more begun to fall, which meant we spent a good chunk of Saturday morning picking them up so Seymour could mow lawn.

While we worked, Princess Opal and her kin slept in the yard. Doesn’t Buddy look comfy under the tree? So kind of them to help us out. 😀

Shadow: “Opal! You’re back! Welcome home!”
Opal: “Why thank you, Mr. Regal. It’s good to be back.”
Shadow: “Yeah, yeah, yeah – of course you are. Now, enough small talk – let me sniff your butt.”

Opal: *rolls eyes* “Males. Ugh.”
I guess some things will never change. 🙂

After a week away, Miss Opal has returned. We thought she’d been eaten by a coyote, so last night, Seymour set out a live trap.

Imagine his surprise when he checked it this morning and found Opal inside.
I haven’t seen her this lovey in…well, ever, actually. But it’s good to have her home. 🙂
