Every time…

So this happened…again…

*sigh*

I feel more exhausted today than I did yesterday (and yesterday I was pretty doggone tired). How are you coping with the loss?

Spring at last!

If there’s a better way to start off spring than with a beautiful sunrise, I don’t know it.

How did the first day of spring treat you?

Spring into…winter?

It seems Mother Nature can’t make up her mind about what season this is supposed to be. We had a thunderstorm Friday that was quickly followed by a snowstorm, which meant my drive home from work was super interesting.

It also meant that my drive to work yesterday morning was super pretty.

Luckily, the ice hadn’t yet melted when I went home, so I was able to shoot these beauties. But pictures don’t really do them justice – these trees, they were silver. And iridescent. It was such a beautiful day to be out!

Defeating Winter

I found the following in my drafts, and I really like it:

The people here are as harsh as the landscape, but they’re not without their warmth, and in a land of perpetual winter, warmth is important. Heck, even in a world not cursed with perpetual winter, warmth is important. Grab hold of whatever warmth you can find, magnify it, and pass it on – that’s the way to defeat winter.

It has potential. Possibility. It came from a draft of a review I was writing a while back, but I couldn’t figure out how to properly work it in. Still, there it is. Waiting. Hoping.

Like people, waiting for spring.

When writers say they get their inspiration from everywhere, this is what they mean. A couple-few throwaway sentences scrapped from a review. A sunrise on a bitter winter morning, the kind that reminds you there is still joy and beauty in a frozen world. A brisk wind at your back as you walk down the street.

I can’t wait to see what this will turn into. 🙂

Holy cow – how have I been at this project for 300 days already?  Didn’t I just start this thing?

Today is the kids’ last day of school.  It’s the last day of school in the building they’re in for good (as far as I know at the moment), as the school district has decided to close the building. *sigh*  The last day of school is supposed to be a fun day – it’s the beginning of summer, baby! – not a downer.

With that in mind, here’s a beginning I made last night:

I suppose technically, I made this beginning last weekend, when I actually put together the pie crust and the fruit.  Thing is, I didn’t actually get the pie put together until last night.  When I trimmed the bottom pie crust, I had more left than I thought I’d have, so I tried to make the top crust out of my remains, but I didn’t have quite enough for that.  That was when I decided to try a lattice crust.  I’d never done one before, and the results aren’t exactly pretty (especially now that I’ve noticed I botched up the lattice), but hopefully it tastes better than it looks.

I’ll find out tonight. 🙂

Are your kids still in school yet?  If not, how long have they been on summer break?

Today was an absolutely wonderful day to spend at the park.  After running a few errands, we did just that.

The boys had a blast playing on the swings and the slides and the horsies.  It wasn’t too hot, it wasn’t too cold, the sun was shining – it was just right.

But then we had to come home, and there were two very upset little boys.  Luckily they were easily pacified with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original cartoon version) when we got home, which made me happy because I had supper to fix, pie to bake, and a house to clean before a guest arrived.

Whew!

How do you like to spend beautiful days with your kids?

So yesterday was busy.  Like, crazy busy.  I didn’t get done anything I wanted to in terms of writing, but I did get my latest rhubarb harvest out of my fridge, so there’s that.  I made two huge pots of rhubarb sauce, which I now have to get out of my fridge and into some freezer bags, and I started putting together a strawberry rhubarb pie, but stopped short of getting the pie assembled and baked.  I thought perhaps I’d do that today, since it was meant for tonight, but between a wicked headache and supper plans going awry, it hasn’t happened.

At least, not yet.

I haven’t accomplished anything at all today except…
