Room-ba!

We’ve lived in our house for three years now and have done some extensive remodeling in that time.  Almost every room in our house has had something done to it.  At last, we’ve crossed Tomcat’s room off our list.

Since we have three boys, we have a set of bunk beds.  The littler two aren’t quite old enough for them yet, but they will be one day, so in the meantime, Tomcat gets to choose whether he has top bunk or bottom.  While they’re great for accommodating a large number of children in a small number of bedrooms, they’re not so great when it comes to repainting a room.  Case in point:

As you can see, the bunk beds were a bit of a problem.  Did I say problem? I meant to say that they posed their own special challenge (by which I, of course, mean that they were a colossal pain in my back side).
Seriously, having something that big in the middle of the room when you’re trying to paint really sucks. But! It gets better behind the cut.

So, about your border…

Finally got around to putting up Tomcat’s wallpaper border tonight.  It went more or less okay until we got to the closet.

This crap should be drug out into the street and shot.  Repeatedly.

In other news, tomorrow I will probably have a post on how awesome Tomcat’s room looks.  You know, after the electrician finishes installing his ceiling fan and I get everything put back in his room where it belongs. 😀

That is all.

I repeat…

Dear God, I think I’m going to die.  I need a good long soak in a nice hot bath.  And a nap.  It should last a week or two.  And perhaps a full-body massage.  That ought to put me on the mend.

That is all. 😀

Painting a bedroom, or Dear God, I think I’m going to die

I’ve spent all weekend prepping and painting Tomcat’s bedroom.  We’ve lived here three years now and we’ve painted Tadpole’s room and Cricket and Thumper’s room (they share), but we hadn’t done Tomcat’s.  We haven’t painted our room yet, either, but it’s gonna wait a while longer yet.  Anyway, his room is gonna rock when it’s done.  Meanwhile, I forgot how much painting sucked.  We ran out of paint, so while we’re waiting for the first coat to dry, Seymour took Tomcat and Tadpole to town to buy supplies and I put Cricket and Thumper down for naps.  Time to relax!

P.S. Stay tuned – Friday’s photo post will feature the before and after pictures. 🙂

Flute-tastic Friday

Tonight is my ten-year high school class reunion.  Sort of.  See, my class isn’t terribly organized.  We started planning our five-year reunion two weeks ahead of time.  The reunion wound up involving a gathering of anyone who could come meeting at the country club for drinks.  Okay, whatever, we’ll be more organized for the ten-year reunion, right?

Yeah, not so much.

Warning: Whining ahead

I am sooo not a morning person. I’m even worse when I’m sleep-deprived and required to be up early. Take this morning, for instance. This morning we had to be up at 5:00 a.m., but we didn’t get to bed till almost midnight and I’m pretty sure it was after that by the time I fell asleep.

I was already exhausted after the weekend. Now I’m more exhausted. And I get to drive two hours home. Yaaay. But it could be a whole lot worse. And I finally finished the edits on chapter five, so there’s that. 🙂

I’d love to just go home, take a nap, and spend the rest of the evening working on revisions, but I know that won’t happen. I wonder if I’ll ever have free time to myself again, like I did when I was a “crazy busy” teenager.

Excitement abounds!

You know, I’ve had something brewing in the back of my mind for quite a while now as a blog topic and some of the posts I’ve been reading lately on T.L. Tyson’s blog have more or less cemented the idea in my head.  However, I’m not sure it’s fully fermented yet and at any rate, I received an email over my lunch break that pretty much blew said idea sky-high.  Any thoughts I might have otherwise entertained posting about today were blown to smithereens when I read the following words:

…I’d love to see the whole thing…

Squee!

Zombified

Between preparing for Cricket’s birthday party and participating in the follow party hosted by Charlotte Castle on Facebook yesterday, I’m feeling a bit zombified today.  The follow party was great fun – I’ve made some new friends, gained some new followers, and had some great conversations.  But this zombie feeling isn’t likely to let up soon – Cricket’s party is tomorrow and I still have lots to do yet.  I’m taking a break for now, though.  I need a good nap.

I’m still struggling to believe that come Monday, Cricket will be two years old.  It seems like just yesterday we brought him home from the hospital, all excited and filled with joy at the prospect of the new life that was ours to mold.  I must admit, my favorite part of having kids with Seymour (namely, Cricket and Thumper) is that we don’t have to share them with anyone else (Tadpole and Tomcat each come from previous marriages and, while we normally get along pretty well with our exes, there are always times when things don’t go the way we would like them to go or when we don’t get to have the kids when we would like to have them because they’re with their other parents – it’s just part of being divorced).  For instance, Tomcat and Tadpole are with their other parents this weekend and as far as I know will not be able to come to Cricket’s party tomorrow.  It’s a disappointment, but it comes with the territory when you’re a divorced parent.  That’s just the way life goes.

Anyway, my boys are getting so big that it’s hard to believe.  In just over a month I’ll be doing all this again in preparation for Thumper’s first birthday!  To be honest, I’m just glad he’s made it to his birthday because when he was born, we weren’t sure he would.  His birth was vastly different from his brother’s – instead of a joyful event full of smiles and visitors, it was an anxiety-ridden event full of worry and panic.  It all seems like such a long time ago, but at the same time, it feels like only yesterday.  It’s funny how time pulls that off.

And now, to nap.  Don’t forget to stop back Monday, when I’ll be kicking off four days of posts featuring Lisa McKay and her latest book, Love at the Speed of Email!  You won’t want to miss it!

It’s five o’clock somewhere…

It’s five o’clock somewhere, right?  Why the heck can’t it be five o’clock here?  I just want to go home and sit in my lovely air-conditioned living room and relax with my guys. *sigh*

Also, check out The Page Turner!  It’s a super cool blog run by a great gal and one of yesterday’s posts featured The Lokana Chronicles!  Needless to say, I was pretty stoked.  Be sure to check out the pages 105 Tips for Writers and A Page Turner for a look at the awesome Page Turner software.  The software isn’t live yet, but it sounds like they hope to start beta testing pretty soon.  I personally can’t wait to start playing around with it.

And now, I think I’ll try to rest my poor sun-fried brain.  It’s another scorcher out there today and another one of my kids has another ballgame tonight.  Tadpole played a doubleheader last night (won one, lost one) and Tomcat has a game tonight (not a doubleheader, thank goodness).  I missed out last night because it was too hot for Cricket and Thumper to be outside and I think I’m going to miss out tonight, too, because it’s actually hotter today than yesterday (mid-nineties for temps, heat indices in the lower triple digits, humidity levels approaching 100% – yesterday was pretty similar, but with 30-40 mph winds all day long on top of all that).  Blargh.
