You know, I’ve had something brewing in the back of my mind for quite a while now as a blog topic and some of the posts I’ve been reading lately on T.L. Tyson’s blog have more or less cemented the idea in my head. However, I’m not sure it’s fully fermented yet and at any rate, I received an email over my lunch break that pretty much blew said idea sky-high. Any thoughts I might have otherwise entertained posting about today were blown to smithereens when I read the following words:
…I’d love to see the whole thing…
Now clearly, those words came from someone I’d queried, hence my excitement. And of course, they were followed by a great big but (it was even in all caps). But you know what? That great big but actually didn’t bother me all that much. This is only my first round of queries and I know that this is a tough business. Also, I’ve been wondering for a while now if perhaps The Lokana Chronicles couldn’t maybe benefit from another editing pass (please, Gretchen, if you’re reading this, don’t hurt me from halfway across the country :P). I know that at some point you have to say, “Enough is enough! This is as good as it’s gonna get and anything else I do is not going to make it better because there is no such thing as perfection.” Knowing when to say “Enough, already!” is difficult. Also, while this is not the first novel I’ve written in my life, it is the first one I’ve felt was worth trying to get published and so I want it to be as polished as possible. I feel like I’ve learned so much since the last time I said I was done with editing, yet I feel like I still have so much more to learn. I’m sure I will always feel like that, but that’s probably because I believe that one never really stops learning.
Meanwhile, I’m going to take all that learning I’ve done over the last couple of months and put it to good use. I’m going to flush out my story some more and submit that full! I’m going to have a nice supper with my family tonight and try not to die of heat stroke in the process because holy hot, Batman, it’s hot as Hades out there! Cricket was so hot after his nap yesterday that he was literally dripping with sweat – I kid you not, it looked like someone dunked him in a swimming pool, poor guy.
So, to recap: Full request! Squee! Hot as Hades! And now, I must go barricade myself in someplace with air conditioning, caffeine, and writing supplies so I can work on the fleshing-out of my story. Wish me luck!
