Writing is hard, yo

So I saw this on Twitter, thanks to today’s Writing 101 assignment post:

And I have to say that it’s like Mr. Grossman was reading my mind when he wrote it.  Sometimes it’s really nice to know that you’re not as alone as you feel, especially when your favorite pastime is a solitary one. I’m terrible about comparing myself to other writers – for the most part, I come away from books feeling that other authors are much better/faster/more talented than I am and that I’ll never reach the heights I aspire to.

Then I read something like this, or I listen to songs like “Keep On Movin’,” and I feel a little bit better.  I just hope the feeling will fade as time goes by (and hopefully, as contracts come my way).

What about you – do you have a passion that this tweet could describe?  Tell me what you’re passionate about in the comments!

I sing with the volume cranked so I can’t hear myself too. For years I refused to sing in front of my hubby ’cause he’s pretty fantastic (I might be a smidge biased). The worst, though, is art. I love to paint and draw but I never show anyone.

My husband can sing pretty well, too, so for ages I’d sing barely above a whisper in front of him. Then he popped in a Disney CD, and I had to sing it loud. 🙂

I know exactly what you mean about art. The only thing I can draw well is stick people.

I’m so glad that I’m not the only one that identified with that tweet. It took me a long time to build enough confidence to finally start my blog. There are so many excellent writers with blogs, I guess I was worried that mine wouldn’t stack up.
I love that you describe yourself as a geek. Geeks are the best!
Heroism and wuv, twue wav, such noble topics to write about. I look forward to reading more from you.
    PS. Love the trolls.

I’ve been blogging for eight years now, and for the better part of that time, I had only a handful of readers, both of whom were close friends. But the more I practiced, the more my readership grew. And I checked out your last post – you’re really good! I felt like I was sitting in that courtroom with you.

Also? Geeks rock. Band geeks especially. 😉

Also also? Glad you love the trolls. They make me smile every time I see them. 🙂
