Saturday was a tough day. Our kittens, Oscar and Patches, went to their new home Saturday afternoon with a lovely lady who’s a friend of a friend. Bubbles and Tadpole were understandably upset when they came home and found the kittens gone, but not nearly as upset as they were when we received the news that Oscar had died sometime Monday night from an unknown illness.
Patches, thankfully, is doing well and enjoying her new home. But with everyone so upset, including Mrs. Calico (her mama) and Freckles (her sis), Seymour spent a considerable part of Tuesday afternoon searching for more kittens to bring home. He drove over 200 miles and went to several different farms in search of kittens, finally settling on these three:
OJ’s a little wild, so he’s currently residing in our luxurious mud room till we get him tamed. Katniss and Minnie are guests of our scenic machine shed, along with Freckles and Calico, who is graciously nursing Miss Minnie. Poor little thing was a runt, so I’m glad that Mrs. Calico is taking care of her.
And there may be yet more feline love to come at our house! I’ve got dibs on one of my sister’s sister-in-law’s little kittens, and in two or three weeks, Little Miss will be ours. I love gray and white kitties. And black and white kitties. And orange kitties.
Okay, I just love kitties. I’m on my way to becoming a crazy cat lady (got the crazy part down, now I’m working on the cat part). 🙂

I have a black and white cat called Meg. What can I say about her? Oh, yes! She looks like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, but she’s the devil’s spawn 😀

Sounds like a cat. Ours left me a decapitated baby bunny this morning. Poor thing.

I love them, too. I wish we could keep them all inside, but Seymour is horribly allergic to cats. As long as they’re outside, they don’t bother him, but inside cats give him the sniffles something fierce. 😦

oh. My sister is the only one that has a prob with cats because they always use her room as a litter box when they get nervous.

I’ve had cats like that before. I also had one who really enjoyed eating styrofoam in my room at 3:00 a.m. while I was trying to sleep. Or paper – he loved eating paper, too. Crazy kitty. It would have been easier to stay mad at him if he wasn’t so darn sweet. 🙂

I’d have the only dog I’ve ever liked which is a Belgian Shepherd, but while we live in this house with wooden floors that’s out. I long for the day, though. Sorry to here about the kitten.

The family who had the house before us had a bear or something equally as large. It took me months to get rid of the scrapes. I should have just replaced the floor.

Our kitten is 4 months old and he’s absolutely barking mad. A real character. I’m sorry to hear about oscar, that’s so sad but I suspect the new bunch will keep you busy.

Sounds like our kittens – OJ is going to be the whiner of the bunch, I think. He was a bit on the feral side when Seymour brought him home – he’d hiss at you just for looking at him – but now he’s cuddly and playful and as purry as a cat can be. I suspect he’ll be right next to Freckles, meowing his head off, while she’s scratching at the glass storm door trying to get inside. 🙂

Thanks, Sophie. I wish we could just keep them all inside – Opal (formerly known as Oscar Junior – apparently she’s a girl) and Katniss are guests of our mud room in an effort to tame them a bit, and they’re so cute and cuddly. They’d be great lap kittens. And now Freckles (who, apparently, is a boy) and Minnie are missing, and it’s just been one thing after another with our kitties. I hope Freckles and Minnie will turn up soon.

No, sadly, they didn’t. And then Katniss went missing, so now Opal is back in the mudroom till we can trap whatever critter is getting our kittens. We got another new one yesterday, a pretty little gray and white girl we named Socks, and two others will arrive within the next week or so. Hopefully we’ll be able to let them all outside soon – four kittens will make for a very crowded mudroom.

Oh honey…do you have a fenced enclosure anywhere where they could go safely? We’re using our old dog car dog cage as a fence in the garden, for when we want the doggies to have fresh air but not run around. Poor you, so sorry for you sweetie. 😦

No, we don’t. But we think whatever’s getting them is nocturnal, so now we’ve decided that we’re going to let them out during the day and then bring them back in the house at night till whatever it is is gone. Hopefully we can find them all come nightfall.

I think that’s a great idea honey. To be honest, we’ve always done that, had our cats roaming free during the day and had them in at night. Apart from making it safer for them with wildlife and cars, it’s the best thing to do for birds too. The vast majority of birds which are decimated by cats are killed at night when they’re roosting and asleep. So if you want a healthy bird population with lots of cute chicks, best to keep your cats in at night. 😀 Hope that works for you sweetie. xxxx

Me, too. We had a place all set up for them in one of our outbuildings, so that way they could roam free during the day and then be safe inside at night, but the building isn’t in very good condition and something keeps getting into it somewhere (we don’t know where). So in the meantime, the porch is the safest place, I think, at least till they’re big enough to defend themselves against whatever it is that thinks my poor little kittens make a tasty snack.
