Cricket always yells for me to save him when Daddy starts tickling him, but this time, our roles were reversed:

daddy's boy

I was the one doing the tickling and Daddy was the one doing the saving.  Apparently, though, Daddy was also supposed to save him from having his picture taken.

So much for that idea. 🙂

Our annual family photo book arrived today, a day earlier than I’d expected.  So to celebrate, here’s a picture from said album:

Cricket riding Daddy around the room proved easier to capture than a nice picture of everyone in front of the Christmas tree.

I use Blurb to create these books each year, and the quality is fantastic.  (This is in no way a promotional post; I’m just really happy with the quality of their products.)  I ordered the first one for our first wedding anniversary as a way to document the first year of our marriage; I wish I’d captioned those pictures, but I didn’t really get into the different layout designs and caption options until the following year.  I looked through the 2013 book this afternoon after it arrived and was surprised by how much I’d forgotten about the events of last year, and how much the kids had changed.

Every time we take a picture that comes out particularly hilarious now, we tell the kids it’s going in the book.  Of course, with Miss Tadpole the reigning Queen of the Funny Face and Cricket and Thumper hamming it up at every opportunity, that means I have my work cut out for me when it comes to choosing which pictures make the cut and which ones don’t.  Still, it’s a lot of fun making these books, and the kids love looking through them year after year.

Do you do anything like this in your family?

And the winners are…

The Summer Reads Blog Tour is finally at an end.  Can you believe it?  I know I can’t!  It seems like just yesterday I was sharing the first round of great books.  What happened to summer?

At any rate, the winners of the Rafflecopter contest have been chosen, and if you scroll down, you can see who won which prizes and how to claim them!  So long, summer, and hello, booky goodness!

And the winners are…

All good things…

As the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and so it is for the Summer Reads Blog Tour.  Here to wrap things up is our lovely host, Lisa L. Wiedmeier, with a few thoughts on what has been, for me – and hopefully for you, too – a fantastic time.

Summer Reads Blog Tour
Week Twelve & Thirteen

I keep staring at the calendar to my left, staring at it and wondering where the weeks have gone. Are you doing the same thing? *shakes head* Twelve, almost thirteen glorious weeks of summer have already flown by and in those weeks we’ve had the pleasure of meeting other great authors and hearing a whole lot about what their favorite reads are. When I started planning out this Blog Tour with Sam, we had decided that we wanted to give to you the opportunity to learn about our other author friends, and pass on to you the pleasure of perhaps finding new reads, some off the beaten path, for your enjoyment.

As this Summer Reads Blog Tour winds down…

Here’s Seymour giving Miss Tadpole a few pointers on mini-golf:

Today we took our older two kids to the local water park and miniature golf course. We don’t get to do a lot with just them, and this was great family fun.

When I’m nervous…

darcyMy fabulous friend Charnele tagged me last week to share a little about some of my nervous tics.  I don’t think I have a whole lot of nervous habits, but there are a few that spring immediately to mind:

  1. I clam up.  I’m shy by nature and have a hard time initiating conversations with people I don’t know well (and occasionally with those I do know well).
  2. I fidget.  I play with my hands, my wedding ring, or my hair.  I adjust my clothes.  I cross my arms.  You get the picture.
  3. I chew my cheeks or lips.  I do this instead of clenching my jaw, but sometimes that happens, too.
  4. Hot flashes…I have them.  I have them even when I’m not nervous, but they seem to hit especially hard when I’m nervous about something.
  5. I sweat.  It’s an extension of the hot flashes, but one I’m rather self-conscious about.

What about you?  Do you do anything in particular when you’re nervous?

Photo Friday: Out and about!

This week’s Photo Friday is all about being out and about, and since it’s Independence Day here in the good ol’ U.S. of A., I can’t think of a better place to be than out and about.

I started the day off out and about at our old house, prepping for the open house this weekend.  That was followed up by a trip to the park, which is where the bulk of my hometown’s Fourth of July festivities take place:

Photo Friday: The best friends edition

Well, Friday certainly snuck up on me this week.  I’m still trying to catch up on all the blogging fun I’ve been so lucky to be a part of this week, and I completely forgot about choosing a theme for this week’s Photo Friday post.  Whoops.

As I was trying to decide what to post, I remembered that it’s my best friend Jenny’s birthday today.  After wishing her well a couple different places, I decided that friendship would be the perfect theme and, since I have a bunch of pictures of my friends and me over the years already posted, why not collect them all in one post?

So, in no particular order, below I give you a dozen pictures of my besties and me over the years, from high school, through college, and beyond.   I hope you enjoy my little picspam…

Movie night!

MNO_OfficialPoster_HighThat’s right, last night I got to go to a movie.  With my husband!  A real, actual date!  It was awesome!

Our local theater does a membership drive each year, where for $30 you can buy a pass to see movies for free on Monday nights.  If you spend $60, you get to see them on Mondays or Tuesdays.  We opted for the two-night pass, and it’s been wonderful.  The movies at our local theater aren’t overly expensive anyway, but it’s still nice to support local business this way.  Anyway, we went to see Moms’ Night Out, and it was easily the funniest movie I’ve seen in ages.

From IMDb:

All Allyson and her friends want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and fun – a long-needed moms’ night out. But in order to enjoy high heels, adult conversation, and food not served in a bag, they need their husbands to watch the kids for a few hours … what could go wrong?
