If you don’t follow S.Z.W.ordsmith, you really should. This week’s posts have all been about her trip to the L.A. Times Festival of Books and her most recent post is about a panel she attended where Judy Blume spoke. What childhood would be complete without reading the Fudge books? Reading this post made me want to reread those books and more, especially since the only thing I really remember about them is that they were great books. Same goes for Beverly Cleary’s Ramona books (although I do remember a question about a dawnzer that struck me as particularly funny).
My childhood was filled with so many wonderful books; I wish I could go back in time and make a giant list of them all so that I could reread them now. I suspect I’ve remembered more than a few of them incorrectly, which will make Googling them somewhat more difficult. There are some, though, whose titles and authors I’ve remembered correctly, which is great because it made finding them online infinitely easier. I should make a list of them all and head down to the library, list in hand, for a massive book spree. Unfortunately, I’m not sure when I would get around to reading them. The last time I checked something out from the library, it sat on my desk for my allotted two weeks and I ended up returning it unread. 😦
I’ve set myself a goal to read more this year than I have in the past couple of years, and I’ve been doing somewhat better than I thought. I suppose, though, that reading my own books for editing purposes probably doesn’t count, does it? Still, I’ve managed to knock out several books in a relatively short time – I may have only read six books so far, but I read them in spurts of three at a time, something I haven’t done since I marathoned the Harry Potter series two summers ago. I miss reading; I used to read all the time.
To keep me honest and help me with my goal, I think I’ll post my reading list here for all to see. Not only will it motivate me to read more, but it’s a good way to recommend books to others who might not know of them otherwise. Stay tuned – once I finish with the drudgery that is housework, I shall get to it!
Okay, probably not. It’s a short list – I’ll just do it now. 🙂
While you’re waiting, go check out S.Z.W.ordsmith!

I suppose it doesn’t, but at least I was able to get it edited that way! 🙂

I wish I had kept all of my childhood books. I loved the Beverly Cleary books–I must have read Ramona Quimby, Age 8 about 100 times as a kid.
Can’t wait to see what you’re reading!

I don’t have all of mine anymore, but I do have quite a few of them. I love introducing my kids to the books I enjoyed as a kid, and they like introducing me to books that they love. It’s a win-win situation. 🙂
