Summer lovin’

Nothin’ says summer like fresh corn on the cob.  Except for maybe the fresh (Made from scratch, even!) strawberry rhubarb pie cooling in the kitchen. 🙂

I’ve tried grilled corn once, and I liked it! But fresh… I don’t know. I bought it in our local store, but how many days had past from it was picked till it ended up here in Norway is hard to say. Usually the corn is bought canned… But I hear your word STRAWBERRY. That’s summer!

My ex-husband grills it, apparently, because our son keeps raving about it. I’ve never tried it grilled, though – maybe next time we have corn, we’ll have to grill it. I grew up eating canned corn, though, and some brands are definitely better than others. It’s hard to beat home-canned, though – my grandparents used to grow sweet corn and then we’d can it ourselves, and it was a lovely taste of summer in the depths of winter.

As for the strawberries, I wish I had some strawberry plants at home. We finally have some established rhubarb plants, for which I’m supremely grateful, but now I need some strawberry plants to pair them with so that I can make all the strawberry rhubarb sauce (and jam) that I can freeze. 🙂
