Small-town living is
Not for the faint of heart, but
It is rewarding.
Small-town life never
Leaves you behind, no matter
How far you may run.

When all is said and done,
When you are dead and rotten,
Will you be mourned for all you’ve done,
Or for all that you have gotten?
When all is said and done,
When all you are is ash,
Will you be missed for what you’ve done,
Or for being over brash?
When all is said and done,
When you are but a memory,
Will you be recalled for fun,
Or for being absentee?

Er, well, Tuesday night, in this case.
Either way, this is pretty much how I’d like to spend it:

I don’t know if it’s the weather or what, but I’m just not feelin’ the whole responsible adult thing right now. Catch ya on the flip side!

A friend of mine posted the following on Facebook:
“Every year there are a lot of “my husband/partner gave me X today – he’s/she’s so wonderful!” on Valentine’s day*. And yes, my hubby brought home a dozen roses (and a giant penguin earlier in the week) and while those things are great, he is not a wonderful husband because of them. He’s a wonderful husband because he listens to me, even when he doesn’t care about what I’m saying. He hugs me when I’m sad, even if he has to stop what he’s doing. He wastes his day to take me pokemoning, when he’d rather be playing his video games. He works hard ten plus hours a day, without complaining (more than normal), then comes straight home. He doesn’t blow our money on booze, or drugs, or gambling, he doesn’t get into trouble. He’s monogamous. He’s smart, funny, and most of all, he tries – not just once a year, but 360 days (hey, everyone takes a few days off, right?) And for that, I am very lucky.
*I’m not knocking those posts. I think it’s sweet that the recipients are excited and grateful.”
I read it this morning and couldn’t help thinking of my husband. He really doesn’t do Valentine’s Day, which makes the fact that he brought me home a bouquet of tulips yesterday all the more surprising. Gift-giving on Valentine’s is expected, and he doesn’t like being expected to give me a gift just because society says he should.
When Seymour first explained how he feels about Valentine’s Day, I have to admit…

According to Facebook’s “On This Day…” feature, I was having a Leopold Bloom moment on this day back in 2007, and you know what? I kinda want my blue blanket right now, and I don’t even have one.
Well, not a blue one. I do have a striped blanket, though, and it makes an excellent shawl. Why didn’t I grab it on my way out of the house this morning?
Oh, right – because I was too busy being hysterical. At least I wasn’t hysterical and wet.
How’s Monday treating you? Will you go trick-or-treating tonight? Let’s look on the bright side of this Monday together!

With Labor Day now but a memory, I feel it’s time to kick my blog back into high gear. And by high gear, I mean posting more than once a month.
Because, you know, I’m a writerly type. And writerly types write.
Right?
Right.
Okay, then. It’s been a while! I’m still trying to make my head stop spinning after the whirlwind that was my summer, which I truly can’t believe is over already. It’s true what they say – the older you get, the faster time passes. And with that in mind, here are some of the ways I spent my time this summer:
Holy buckets, is it cold out there! How cold is it?
It’s so cold that I passed a bunch of penguins on my way to work this morning. 😀
The worst part is that this is an improvement from the weekend. *sigh*
Meanwhile, I’m busy playing catch-up on pretty much everything after taking care of two sick kiddoes last week, so please excuse my probable absence here this week. In addition to catching up on stuff, I’m also in the midst of reading a fantastic new book. Have no fear – I’ll share my thoughts once I’m finished! It’s a book I’ve been looking forward to reading for some time now, so I suppose I’d better get back to it while I still have a few minutes to spare. 😉
Have a great day, everybody, and in case I don’t see ya, have a great rest of the week as well! 🙂

Can you believe it’s the week of Christmas already? I sure can’t!
It’s been a crazy month so far and I suspect it’s only going to get crazier between now and the big day at the end of the week. With everything that’s going on, I’ve decided to take a little blogging break to catch up on my sleep and keep my sanity. Hopefully things here will get back to normal next week.
From my family to yours, merry Christmas!
