Thumper played so hard today. The kids put the boys down for naps early in the afternoon, but Thumper insisted, as usual, that he wasn’t tired.

Then we sat down to watch ABC Family’s Harry Potter marathon, and this happened:

And the Energizer Bunny is down for the count...

He started off snuggled up against Cricket’s godmother, who was visiting with her family, but pretty soon, he was down for the count. Once he was down, he did not want to wake up. Of course, when we told him supper was imminent, he decided that maybe he’d better return to the Land of the Conscious.

I was impressed – he spent several minutes-long periods actually being still. That almost never happens. 🙂

Photo 365 #294: Five things every parent of boys should know

wpid-20150528_093835.jpgIf you’ve followed this blog for any length of time (or even if you’ve just checked out my About page), you’ll know I have four kids. Three of them are boys; two of my children are rapidly approaching their crazy, mixed-up teenage years; and two of them are toddlers. Getting a toddler to do what you want them to when you want them to do it is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone; it ain’t gonna happen, and my morning spent trying to do just that (wrangle toddlers, that is) largely inspired this post.

Do these apply to all boys? Of course not. Do they apply to girls, too? You betcha. But I’m dealing with boys at the moment, so here’s what I know:

It’s a wet and windy day today, so of course, the boys were up at the crack of dawn wanting to go outside and play.  There’s a chill in the air, so all I wanted to do was stay snuggled up in bed.  Luckily, I was able to reach a compromise – the boys came and snuggled in bed with me.

They watched cartoons, I worked on my story.

And for a while, everyone was happy.  Then, of course, the begging for food began.  Kids these days – they think they need to eat three times a day. 😛

How do you like to spend cold, wet mornings?

sleepyboysHoo boy, am I tired!  It was a wild weekend, between holding a garage sale and spending time with the family on Mother’s Day.  It’s kinda nice to be back at work today, where I can get a bit of rest.

The garage sale went well, and Mother’s Day was fun, too.  We watched Star Wars in the morning and spent time with my in-laws in the afternoon and evening, but poor Seymour and Thumper were so tired after Saturday’s sale that they spent most of the movie asleep.

How was your weekend?  Did all you moms out there have a great Mother’s Day?

We spent a lot of time outside Sunday afternoon, and it was really quite fun.  Bubbles helped Seymour with the sandbox, Cricket played with his tricycle, Thumper picked flowers, and Miss Tadpole wandered around.  She climbed trees, chatted with the guys, and followed the boys around.

At one point, she helped Thumper pick flowers.  He already had quite a few, but by the time the two of them were finished, they had quite a bouquet. 🙂

Thumper absolutely hates naps.  He also hates being interrupted.  In this case, he was mad because we interrupted play time with his cousins for nap time with us:

I snapped these on our way home from Miss Birdie’s baptism Sunday afternoon.  He never said a word, but his expression said it all:

“I can’t believe you did that, Mom.”

“I don’t need a nap – I’m not tired.”

“I’m going to look as pathetic as possible until you crack and let me out to play.”

I managed to resist his adorable little pout, though.  And he did eventually fall asleep, only to wake up five minutes later when Miss Tadpole insisted that we absolutely must stop for a bathroom break because there was no way she could hold it till we got home.

*sigh*

So much for nap time.  At least he wasn’t grumpy. 🙂

Well!  Now that I’ve had a good night’s sleep, I’m feeling a little more with it today (but only a little bit because, once again, I’m being plagued with headaches and hoping they sort themselves out sooner rather than later).  So, about my fun-but-exhausting weekend…

Saturday we spent the better part of the day picking up sticks and pine cones so that Seymour could mow the lawn after work.  We have a couple acres and a lot of trees, so it took for-freaking-ever.  We were out there till well after dark, and it stormed Saturday night and Sunday morning, so now all the sticks we picked up are once more littering the yard. *sigh*  This was the first time we’ve mowed lawn this year, and it badly needed cutting.

Sunday we headed south for my goddaughter, Birdie’s, baptism.  I hadn’t yet seen Miss Birdie, even though she’s five weeks old, and I may or may not have monopolized the baby-holding.

*whistles innocently*

It was an exhausting (but fun) weekend, so this is me today:

Also, this:

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be more rested and can tell you all about the weekend (with pictures!).  Till then, have a great one, and may the fourth be with you. 😀

Photo Friday time!

It’s been such a lovely week here that I’ve started thinking about camping again.  We always have a lot of fun camping, but with the move and everything last year, we weren’t able to go.  We’re making up for it this year, but in the meantime, I’ve got these great shots to get me in the spirit:

These pictures come from a trip to Pine Lake a couple of years ago, and are some of my favorite camping photos:

I can’t believe it’s May already – camping season is just around the corner!

Have a great weekend, everybody, and don’t forget to stop by Charnele’s blog and check out what she’s got going on today!
