Lumberjack down!

Lumberjack down!

Apparently I have a lumberjack for a son.  And apparently, he’s rather a clumsy lumberjack, as he fell into a ditch full of snow retrieving the mail Saturday afternoon.

Guess it’s a good thing he wasn’t armed with any tools of the trade. 🙂

What silly things have your kids said lately?

This morning we paid a visit to my aunt’s church, where my cousin was playing with a trombone ensemble from Wartburg College.

They played some great tunes, and it was a fun time.  Band was by far my favorite thing about going to Wartburg.  And the afternoon only improved when we returned home, put the boys down for naps, and marathoned season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I love lazy Sundays.  How did you spend yours?

2015-02-15 08.25.30Don’t let that adorable face fool you – this is his mischievous smile.  This smile says, “I’m gonna do somethin’…Somethin’ bad…Muahahaha!”

And now I’m having flashbacks to Gerbil in a Microwave.  That was fun. 🙂

I love my little Thumper bunny, but wow – this kid…He’s definitely something else.  On the bright side, he woke up this morning with a dry diaper, so I’m super excited because I hate potty training and am really looking forward to being done with it.  That is probably all I’ll say on the topic until I can throw out the diapers for good, but I was so excited this morning that I was ready to scream it from the rooftops. 🙂

Happy Friday, everybody!

We had Seymour’s birthday supper last night, even though his birthday was Monday.  It was pretty good, even if I did mess up the chicken a little bit.

My candle placement skills are improving; last year’s design wasn’t nearly so impressive.

And the kids thought I’d run out of candles.  Ha! 😀

It’s been a heck of a long week already, and I’m really feeling it mentally.  So on that note, here’s another baby picture from this past weekend:

Here’s hoping I’m feeling a little more with it tomorrow.  Have a great Tuesday, everybody! 🙂

I love how moisture brings out the color in an otherwise dreary landscape:

mossy

I took this a couple of weeks ago, back before our newest round of snow made this beautiful apple tree even more beautiful.  Sadly, I never managed to get a picture of it dusted with snow. 😦

Photo Friday already?

Once upon a time, I was quite adept at climbing trees.  This tree was at my grandparents’ house and did a fantastic job of shading their driveway.  I remember, quite vividly, perching in one of its many crotches and writing my first poem (a copy of which I still have somewhere in my office).

When Bubbles was born, I was disappointed that we didn’t have any good climbing trees in our yard.  Then I moved to town, and each new place also lacked good climbing trees.  At last we have a place with lots of trees for the kids to climb, and they’ve taken to it like ducks to water (the older ones, anyway).  To me, there’s nothing quite like climbing a tree for fun and adventure.

Don’t forget to stop by Charnele’s blog and take a gander at her throwback post!

Did you climb trees when you were a kid?  Do you let your kids climb them?

I arrived home last night to find two packages sitting by my garage.  We occasionally get packages, and occasionally our letter carrier actually leaves them by our garage as we’ve requested a whole bunch of times.  But last night, I was surprised to find that one of them was addressed to me.

I hadn’t ordered anything recently, so what in the world could it be?  The return address indicated that it had come from California, but I couldn’t remember if the ZIP code listed was the same as my bestie’s or not, and if it was, I couldn’t figure out what she would be mailing me.

But then I opened the box, and remembered that I’d joined Blurb’s Coffee & Quill Society back in November, and here they were sending me a free coffee mug!  I do love freebies, especially the useful sort.  Now I have something with which to imbibe my writerly go-juice at home, and I can’t wait to try it out tonight. 🙂
