It’s a wet and windy day today, so of course, the boys were up at the crack of dawn wanting to go outside and play.  There’s a chill in the air, so all I wanted to do was stay snuggled up in bed.  Luckily, I was able to reach a compromise – the boys came and snuggled in bed with me.

They watched cartoons, I worked on my story.

And for a while, everyone was happy.  Then, of course, the begging for food began.  Kids these days – they think they need to eat three times a day. 😛

How do you like to spend cold, wet mornings?

Convulsion

Loaded leaden clouds stack the sky, watching gloomily as the western wind whips waves of grass into a silky frenzy in the moments before the deluge, before the land and sea and sky open up in a soul-rending cry as the world quakes and convulses, heaves and buckles, trembles and dies.

sleepyboysHoo boy, am I tired!  It was a wild weekend, between holding a garage sale and spending time with the family on Mother’s Day.  It’s kinda nice to be back at work today, where I can get a bit of rest.

The garage sale went well, and Mother’s Day was fun, too.  We watched Star Wars in the morning and spent time with my in-laws in the afternoon and evening, but poor Seymour and Thumper were so tired after Saturday’s sale that they spent most of the movie asleep.

How was your weekend?  Did all you moms out there have a great Mother’s Day?

The Photo Friday throwback continues!

IMG_20150507_0001Today’s photo features me as a teenager.  Well, I’m in there somewhere – see that little speck of purple?  That’d be me. 🙂

Way back when, my friends and I had lots of fun shooting roll after roll of film on my little point-and-shoot camera.  I have so many great photos from my teen years!  What I love about this one is the color – just look at all those greens!

Don’t forget to stop by Charnele’s blog and see what she’s got for today.

What did you enjoy doing with your friends in your younger years?

In the process of picking up the yard Saturday, I also pruned my rhubarb patch.  It was starting to go to seed, so I pulled the seed pods out and tossed them in a pile, but the thing about pulling seed pods is that they often pull up a stalk or two of rhubarb along with them.

I figured as long as I was inadvertently pulling rhubarb, I may as well pick some intentionally, too.

I picked all of this rhubarb Saturday afternoon, and there’s lots more where that came from!

We spent a lot of time outside Sunday afternoon, and it was really quite fun.  Bubbles helped Seymour with the sandbox, Cricket played with his tricycle, Thumper picked flowers, and Miss Tadpole wandered around.  She climbed trees, chatted with the guys, and followed the boys around.

At one point, she helped Thumper pick flowers.  He already had quite a few, but by the time the two of them were finished, they had quite a bouquet. 🙂

Long sentence, short story

For today’s story, I was inspired by one of my many (incomplete) trunk novels.  Someday I want to go back to it and not only finish it, but polish the crap out of it, because it’s a story I love.

He laughs in her memory, the sound warm as fire and sweet as honey; for one brief, shining moment, she remembers what it was to be young and in love, a feeling she hasn’t known since the day he left her, cold and alone, with only a note to soothe her broken heart, and she longs to have his arms wrapped around her one last time to keep the cold and loneliness at bay forever.
