Time flies!

Another week has come and gone and with it, another month as well.  This past week seemed to drag by – there was more than once that I could have sworn that time really was standing still.  But at last it’s the weekend!  So what does that mean?

It means that I’ll blink and it will be Monday.

There’s a NASCAR race in Newton today that Seymour is at with a friend, so there was much cleaning last night and this morning.  Tomorrow is the annual family reunion, so tonight I’ll have much cooking to do.  But right now?  Right now, the boys are down for a nap and I have time to get some writing and/or editing done.

And what am I doing?  I’m blogging because I’m too worn out for all the thinking that writing and editing involves.  And I had something I wanted to post about, but now I can’t remember what it was. *sigh*  Perhaps if I could get rid of this darn headache, I could remember more than just my name… 😀

***

Well, I haven’t gotten rid of the headache, but I did kill a couple hours reading stuff online and then a couple more hanging out with an old friend.  Time to feed the kiddoes and have a little quiet time before the craziness of tomorrow!  Have a great night, everybody! 🙂

Things I love

  • Look at that sky! It just makes you feel good to be alive, doesn't it? :)

Look at that sky! It just makes you feel good to be alive, doesn’t it? 🙂

The sound of laughter in the morning.

  • Long talks with old friends.
  • Cuddle time.
  • Sunshine streaming through my window.
  • Bright blue skies dotted with fluffy clouds.
  • Crisp fall air.
  • Lazy weekends.
  • The smiles elicited by a bedtime story.
  • Impending visits with distant friends. 😀

Speaking of impending visits, I am beyond excited for August 8!  One of my oldest friends will be flying out from sunny Californ-I-A to visit dear old Mom and Dad and guess who’s couch she’ll be crashing on?  That’s right, mine! 🙂

All sorts of fun things are in the works for that weekend.  Of course, fun for me would be staying up all night with a boatload of pop and watching movies till dawn.  But I’m sure other things will be involved, too.  Some major catching up is in order.

But for now…to the writing cave!  My boys (all of them) are down for naps and I’ve got a word count to hit.  Enjoy your Sunday, my lovelies!  How will you be spending it?

Campfire tales

So, after my last post, how about something a little lighter?  I’ve been camping three times in the last month and I don’t think I’ve recounted any of our grand adventures!  How the heck did that happen?!

Okay.  Enough exclamation marks.  Maybe. 🙂

So in June, we had planned to visit the (I assume, having never been there myself) lovely Volga Lake.  Thanks to Mother Nature, we were forced to change our plans and we wound up visiting scenic Pine Lake instead, right smack in our own backyard.  It was such a nice park that we decided to return in July, which turned out to be perfect because I got called into work (our camping trips straddled the week-weekend divide).  So in June the weather was lovely, the river was perfect for tubing, the hiking trails were excellent, and we had a great time.

But our first trip in July was a little more eventful…

She winds up for the pitch…

That’s right, I’m working on my pitch again.  But this time it’s for my WIP.  I stumbled across a WIP blog hop the other day and I want to participate, but first I need to shine up my pitch a bit.  I’ve been polishing since Friday.  But I think I’ve just about got it hammered out, so I’ll be posting regularly-ish again soon(ish)!  I hope. 😀

All this is to say that I’ve been doing a fair bit of writing and even more thinking about writing of late.  If I’ve been a bit absent, well, everywhere, now you know why.  So in the meantime, please enjoy this pretty, pretty picture from The Great Gatsby:

Happy Hump Day! 🙂

A fun little post to pass the time

I found this survey thanks to S.T. Lakata, a friend I would not have were it not for GUTGAA and Twitter.  And since I’m bored and my posting has been a bit sporadic of late, I hope you enjoy this while I draft up a whole bunch of posts with which to keep you entertained.  More on that tomorrow.  But now, a little more about me! 🙂

Filling in your kid years:
What’s the one television show you wanted to stay up late to watch?
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.  My parents watched it every week and my sister and I used to beg them to let us stay up and watch it, too.  Sometimes we won; sometimes we lost.  But now I have the entire series sitting in my DVD cabinet, awaiting a rewatch.  Muahahaha! 🙂

Boot Scootin'.......

Boot Scootin’……. (Photo credit: Sandy/Scarlett Images ♥ Finally back!)

What two songs remind you of that period the most?
“The Thunder Rolls” by Garth Brooks
“Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks and Dunn

Clearly, I listened to a lot of country as a kid. And if they still played it on the radio, I’d still listen to it. (Yes, I am aware that country music stations still exist. That was a comment on the state of country music today.) Continue reading

Mix tape memories, Part II

Last night I saw a Buzzfeed post on Facebook about the Backstreet Boys doing a Harlem Shake video.  I missed out on that particular sensation, but I still love the Backstreet Boys, so I had to see this one.  I still don’t get the whole Harlem Shake thing, but whatever.  This made my night:

Also this:

If you don’t know why, then you need to go and watch the video for “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”.  It’s terrible and cheesy and I can’t believe it’s the sort of thing I adored as a teenager, but there you have it.  High school flashbacks for the WIN! 😀

Sunday Sunday Sunday!

So this weekend I wanted to get a bunch of different writing projects squared away between a surprise party and visiting family.  No problem, right?  Wrong!  Well, I got one of them taken care of, anyway, but a visiting headache kept me from the others.  Our weekends are always so busy, it seems, yet they’re the only time I really have a chance to get caught up on things at home.  So this morning is going to be catch-up time till the family arrives.

In the meantime, I acquired a shiny new DSLR a while back and have been having loads of fun with it.  For your viewing pleasure until I return with a post of more substance, behold, the things with which I’ve been filling my weekend: behind the cut!
