A Song for All Seasons is my second poetry book and features poems on the beauty of the world around me, as well as a few musings on life, love, and everything in between. A print version is also in the works, and I’ve set March 13 for the release day.

Last October, I was fortunate to host Callum McLaughlin, a wonderful writer who was publishing a new novel. Well, today he’s back, this time with a poetry book called Seeking Solace:
Seeking Solace is a collection of sixty poems that span a variety of topics and touch on universal aspects of modern life, from nature and war to friendship, love and grief, with many others in between.
From the very air we breathe to the wholly make-believe, regardless of whether inspiration has come from the world around us or the most whimsical of dreams, the one common thread that unites them all is a desire to create poetry that is both approachable and relatable.
Seeking Solace released earlier this week, and it looks fantastic. I love reading poetry as much as I love writing it, and this book makes me want to hold on and not let go. And I haven’t even read it yet! But how could you not love a book with such a beautiful cover?

Some people complain about working lunch breaks, but really, I don’t mind them. In fact, I think they’re a heck of a lot of fun.
Maybe that’s only because my idea of a working lunch break involves taking off to parts unknown and spending time with all sorts of crazy characters. 😀

I’ve been hard at work on a couple of projects this week. It’s nice to feel that I’m being productive again, after an extended bout with the lazy bug.
Oh, who am I kidding? I needed an extended bout with the lazy bug. 🙂
Anyway, I finished rewriting chapter 16 of The Price of Mercy and got a decent start on chapter 17 this noon. I’ve been polishing my query up a little more, too. I’ve finished formatting the e-book version of my new poetry book and have moved on to working on the cover. And have I mentioned the story that Miss Tadpole commissioned? I’ve been working on that, too, and have set it in Lokana, about a thousand years before the events in The Price of Mercy. It rhymes and is rather like a fairy tale, which has been both interesting and challenging because it’s not the sort of thing I normally write.
There’s still lots to be done on all of these projects, but I’m having a lot of fun with them. What are you working on right now?

Hoo boy, am I ever tired! I finally finished reading the Query Shark archives last week and boy, did all that education wear me out. Two hundred and sixty-six queries, plus revisions, plus comments. Talk about a learning experience! That and the comments I received as part of Michelle Hauck’s query critique blog hop have really helped me shine up my query. And further brainstorming led to a name change for my MC.

Seymour and I took a little road trip today, which is why this post didn’t happen sooner. But! We got to see some great urban architecture, including this:
This is inside a Barnes & Noble in Rochester, Minnesota. It is the coolest bookstore I’ve ever been in. The building used to be a theater, and the bookstore kept the old marquee and ticket booth. It is absolutely amazing.
Also? They had some pretty amazing notebooks, and I’m in need of a new one… 🙂 Sadly, the notebooks stayed behind. But Christmas is coming… 🙂

One of my favorite pastimes is reading. I know, big surprise. 🙂 But seriously, I love books. And I love to read, to myself and to my kids. It’s the best way I know to pass on my passion for books.
The best part? It works.
Here’s Thumper reading George and Martha by James Marshall. I loved his books when I was little, and I’ve read them to each of my kids. This particular book is an omnibus edition of all the George and Martha stories, which I’d never seen before. Our last trip to the library yielded not only this treasure, but also James Marshall’s retelling of The Three Bears and a stack of Tomie dePaola books, another author I loved as a kid.
