In memoriam

ljpI haven’t been feeling well lately.  I’ve been dealing with a nasty headache off and on all week, and I was supposed to have surgery yesterday.  Thanks to my insurance company dropping the ball, I was forced to reschedule at the last minute.  I’ve had a dozen ideas for posts, but I haven’t gotten any of them written (although I did start one – I think it was on Monday).

Since I didn’t have to work today, I thought I’d take a little nap and see if it helped.  I was hoping it would.   I was wrong.

And now, an ecard

awesome

I’ve been fighting a sinus infection, an ear infection, and recovering from back-to-back Christmas parties with a cookie walk thrown in for good measure.  I baked 23 dozen Christmas cookies in a span of 24 hours.  I hope to be back to my normal self (both blogging and otherwise) soon, thanks to massive antibiotics (seriously, the things are horse pills!) and a(nother) good night’s sleep.  Until then, please to enjoy these delicious virtual cookies:

Mmm, delicious sugar cookies…om nom nom!

*blink blink* *yawn*

caffeineOh, good Lord, am I ever tired.  I blame the stupid cold I’ve been fighting for a week in combination with four days of holiday merrymaking, followed by a return to work this morning (although really, work feels like a vacation compared to the thought of staying home with two energetic toddlers the way I feel right now).  This unending crud has me feeling all sorts of fuzzy, impairing my ability to write but not dulling my desire.

Talk about frustration.

On the bright side, it’s snowing on my blog again. 😀

Anyway, with all that in mind (and an apparently busy week ahead of me), I don’t know how often I’ll be posting over the next couple of weeks.  I’ll try and pop in every couple of days, but right now, I think I need to focus on getting better and getting ready for Christmas.  I hope to see you all again soon! 😀

Please excuse my lack of presence over the last couple of days.  I’ve become lost in Panem and hope to return shortly.  Meanwhile, have a great rest of the weekend!

Daily gratitude

DSC_0025Sometimes it’s hard to find things in life to be grateful for.  Not everything always goes the way we would like.  Certainly I’ve had times like that in my own life; I’ve even written about them (here, there, and everywhere else).  Writing sometimes helps me keep things in perspective.

With that in mind, today’s post (that should have gone up yesterday and didn’t for reasons that I’ll mention in a minute) is about the little things, the things that can – and do – make life worth living.

Things I’m Grateful for Today

Weekend exploits, or Double Trouble (times two!)

Good friends and good food - what more could a girl ask for on a rockin' Friday night?

Good friends and good food – what more could a girl ask for on a rockin’ Friday night?

Well, here I am, sitting at my desk on a lovely Tuesday morning, trying to recover from yet another action-packed weekend.  When I look back on the summer of 2013, I think that’s what I’ll remember – it was a summer of action.  This time, though, instead of a family camping trip, the weekend revolved around time spent with great friends (and loads of good food, naturally).

One of my oldest and dearest friends is back in town.  Well, not my town anymore, but I’ll get to that.  See, she moved cross-country to sunny California after high school, putting a serious crimp in our hangout schedule.  Last time she was back in Iowa and I actually got to see her was four years ago when her sister got married (sadly, she couldn’t make it back for my wedding a few months later – stupid circumstances).  Clearly, we needed to get together again, and that’s exactly what happened this time, as she spent her trip to our hometown crashed on my couch.  After the “excitement” I had at the beginning of July, this was just the sort of excitement I needed.

I feel fine

So today I’m taking a cue from a friend and using a song title for my post title. And why do I feel fine? Because I was up all night hanging out with my bestest bud, in case you haven’t seen the sidebar to the right. (And then after that, I may or may not have been lost in Camlain and Penrithen, two lands from the fabulous Vortex, Return of the Effra by Lindsey J. Parsons.)

Today, we’re having a blast and tonight is going to be better yet. So if I’m not around for a day or two, rest assured it’s because I’m having a heck of a good time with some really great friends. Have a great weekend, everybody!

Time flies!

Another week has come and gone and with it, another month as well.  This past week seemed to drag by – there was more than once that I could have sworn that time really was standing still.  But at last it’s the weekend!  So what does that mean?

It means that I’ll blink and it will be Monday.

There’s a NASCAR race in Newton today that Seymour is at with a friend, so there was much cleaning last night and this morning.  Tomorrow is the annual family reunion, so tonight I’ll have much cooking to do.  But right now?  Right now, the boys are down for a nap and I have time to get some writing and/or editing done.

And what am I doing?  I’m blogging because I’m too worn out for all the thinking that writing and editing involves.  And I had something I wanted to post about, but now I can’t remember what it was. *sigh*  Perhaps if I could get rid of this darn headache, I could remember more than just my name… 😀

***

Well, I haven’t gotten rid of the headache, but I did kill a couple hours reading stuff online and then a couple more hanging out with an old friend.  Time to feed the kiddoes and have a little quiet time before the craziness of tomorrow!  Have a great night, everybody! 🙂

Things I love

  • Look at that sky! It just makes you feel good to be alive, doesn't it? :)

Look at that sky! It just makes you feel good to be alive, doesn’t it? 🙂

The sound of laughter in the morning.

  • Long talks with old friends.
  • Cuddle time.
  • Sunshine streaming through my window.
  • Bright blue skies dotted with fluffy clouds.
  • Crisp fall air.
  • Lazy weekends.
  • The smiles elicited by a bedtime story.
  • Impending visits with distant friends. 😀

Speaking of impending visits, I am beyond excited for August 8!  One of my oldest friends will be flying out from sunny Californ-I-A to visit dear old Mom and Dad and guess who’s couch she’ll be crashing on?  That’s right, mine! 🙂

All sorts of fun things are in the works for that weekend.  Of course, fun for me would be staying up all night with a boatload of pop and watching movies till dawn.  But I’m sure other things will be involved, too.  Some major catching up is in order.

But for now…to the writing cave!  My boys (all of them) are down for naps and I’ve got a word count to hit.  Enjoy your Sunday, my lovelies!  How will you be spending it?
